Temperatures this morning dipped all way down into the 40s before bouncing back into the upper 60s and low 70s this afternoon. The morning lows in the 40s made this the coolest day we have seen in Des Moines since mid-May. The few clouds that bubbled up this afternoon will fade away as we approach sunset, with clear skies into the overnight. Temperatures will quickly cool back into the 60s by 7pm, falling into the 50s as we approach Midnight. Lows tonight will once again drop into the mid and upper 40s across the state, likely winding up around 49 once again in the metro.
Tuesday will feature another very fall-like day after the chilly morning. Plenty of sunshine will help to warm us back into low and mid-70s by the afternoon. Highs will be a couple degrees warmer, topping out around 75 degrees. A few clouds will roll in late in the day and stick around into the overnight. Winds will switch to the south overnight. That, along with a few clouds will keep lows in the mid-50s heading into Wednesday morning.
A weak system passing by to the north could bring a few spotty showers to the area throughout Wednesday. The best chance to see any shower activity will be north of I-80, more likely north of Highway 30. Temperatures on Wednesday will continue to warm, pushing into the low 80s for most of the area. Dry conditions return on Thursday with highs once again in the low 80s. Typical warmth for late August will continue into the upcoming weekend with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Rain chances will increase once again by later Sunday into Monday of next week.
