Iowa weather: Scattered rain, then heating up
After sunny weather today, clouds and some rainfall return to Iowa in the near future.
Tonight, skies will gradually get cloudier as a wave in the atmosphere approaches from Nebraska. Some scattered showers will pop up in far western/southwest Iowa after dark, then slowly drift east through the night.

Southwest Iowa gets showers (with an isolated thunderstorm possible) from 10 p.m. into sunrise Tuesday. Scattered rain is possible in central/southern Iowa after midnight. These showers will last through daybreak, then move off to the east through mid-morning.
Most areas receiving rain will end up with 0.50" or less. Any showers the remainder of Tuesday will be spotty.
A few clouds will linger after the rain ends, keeping temperatures in the upper 70s tomorrow afternoon.
By Wednesday, the warm-up is back underway.
Sunshine returns and temperatures climb above 80°. By this Friday, afternoon highs will be near 90° — just without as much humidity as you'd expect during July or August.
Saturday looks like the hottest day of the next several, then showers are possible again this coming Sunday.
