Iowa weather: Another frosty night followed by warmer Friday

Iowa weather: Another frosty night followed by warmer Friday
OH, WALKER IS GOING TO BE COLD, ISN’T IT? YEAH. WE’VE GOT FREEZE WARNINGS AND FROST ADVISORIES OUT. AND YOU CAN SEE ON THIS MAP THAT PURPLE IS YOUR FREEZE POTENTIAL AND BLUE IS THE FROST. YOU CAN SEE TEMPERATURES TO THE NORTH AND NORTHEAST DIPPING INTO THE UPPER 20S. SO THAT’S OUR FREEZE. AND YOU CAN SEE AREAS TO THE SOUTHWEST. WHAT’S HAPPENING THERE? YEAH. WE’LL HAVE SOME CLOUDS THAT ARE GOING TO MAKE THEIR WAY ON IN. AND THAT’S GOING TO HELP TO KEEP THOSE TEMPERATURES A LITTLE BIT WARMER AND MAKE IT SO FROST MAY NOT REALLY BE POSSIBLE DOWN THERE. SO YOUR WIND CHILLS TOMORROW MORNING. AGAIN. LOOK TO BE IN THE 20S ACROSS MUCH OF THE STATE, AND BY SATURDAY MORNING WE REALLY START TO WARM THAT UP A LITTLE BIT. I KNOW IT’S NOT EXACTLY A HEAT WAVE, BUT AT LEAST WE’RE NOT GOING TO BE TALKING FROST ON SATURDAY MORNING. IF YOU’RE HEADED OUT TO FOOTBALL FOR YOUR FRIDAY NIGHT HYPE GAMES, WE’RE LOOKING AT CLOUDY SKIES AND A LITTLE BIT OF A LIGHT BREEZE. OTHERWISE, IT’S GOING TO BE A LITTLE CHILLY. THIS IS PERFECT FOOTBALL WEATHER, SO GET OUT THERE AND CHEER YOUR FAVORITE TEAM ON YOUR NEXT EIGHT DAYS. TOMORROW LOOKS TO BE THE WARMEST OF THEM. 63 DEGREES IS YOUR HIGH. AFTER THAT WE ARE IN THE MID TO UPPER 50S AVERAGE HIGH THOUGH STARTING TOMORROW SITS AT 59 DEGREES. SO WE’RE GOING TO BE REALLY CLOSE TO THAT FOR THE NEXT WEEK. HERE. WE’LL BRING IN CHANCES FOR ISOLATED SHOWERS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, AND THEN AGAIN TUESDAY. A LITTLE BIT MORE WIDESPREAD ON TUESDAY, BUT WE CLEAR IT OUT AS WE HEAD INTO THE END OF THE WEEK. TEMPERATURES TOPPING BACK OUT AT 57 BY THURSDAY. SO LOOKING AT HOW MUCH RAIN YOU CAN EXPECT, THERE WILL BE SOME SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE. I WOULD SAY THAT COULD PICK UP MAYBE A 10TH OF AN INCH OR SO, BUT THAT WILL BE ABOUT IT. AS FAR AS ANY ANY RAINFALL OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS HERE. YOUR 12 HOUR FORECAST, STARTING WITH THOSE COOLER TEMPERATURES AND BY THE AFTERNOON AGAIN, WE’RE PUMPING THOSE BACK INTO THE LOW 60S. WE’LL BUILD IN A LITTLE BIT MORE CLOUD COVER, ESPECIALLY INTO THE EVENING. SO IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT WHILE THERE’S A LITTLE BIT OF SUNSHINE, MAKE SURE YOU GET OUT. I’D SAY BEFORE AROUND 1:00 OR SO, 63 FOR THE METRO TOMORROW. AMES THE SAME AREAS TO THE SOUTH, LOW TO MID 60S. WE ARE SLIGHTLY ON THE DECLINE HERE, BUT REMEMBER, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THOSE OVERNIGHT LOWS ARE GOING TO START TO INCH BACK UP. WE COULD BE CLOSE TO 50 FOR AN OVERNIGHT LOW BY EARLY NEXT WEEK. SO AS WE LOOK ACROSS OUR CENTRAL PORTION OF THE STATE 63 FOR AMES, 62 FOR MARSHALLTOWN, BACKING DOWN TO 59 BY SUNDAY AND HOLDING STEADY CLOSE TO 60 DEGREES FOR NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE WITH THAT CHANCE FOR A FEW SHOWERS AS WE KICK OFF YOUR NEXT WORKWEEK. EIGHT DAY FORECAST AGAIN, A LITTLE BIT OF SHOWER ACTIVITY SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY, AND THEN AGAIN LATE MONDAY. THAT WILL CONTINUE ON INTO TUESDAY. AND THAT’S GOING TO KEEP US A LITTLE BIT COOLER. WE ONLY TOP OUT AT 54 ON TUESDAY AND WE HANG RIGHT THERE AS WE HEAD IN TOWARDS THE END OF NEXT WEEK.

Most of the state woke up to freezing temperatures to start off Thursday, but plenty of sunshine warmed us back to around 60. Another frosty night is on the way before a slight warm up, and a few rain chances.Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts | SkycamsTemperatures fell into the low 30s and even 20s across the area this morning. Perry dipped all the way to 27 degrees, while Ankeny and Ames dropped to 30 degrees. Even areas south of I-80 fell to between 30 and 32 degrees, effectively ending the growing season for most of the state. Ample sunshine this afternoon helped to boost temperatures back to around 60 degrees with lighter winds, making for a nice fall afternoon.Skies will remain clear this evening with light winds, meaning we will cool quickly. Temperatures will be back down into the 40s shortly after sunset, with overnight lows in the mid to lower 30s. The coldest tonight will be across eastern and northeastern Iowa where another freeze is expected. Clouds will roll in across southwest Iowa, holding overnight lows to around 40 degrees.Friday should see plenty of sunshine in the morning, but a slow increase in clouds throughout the day. The best rain chances will likely be across southern and eastern Iowa. Although there will be a rain chance, any showers look to remain on the light side, largely seeing totals under a tenth of an inch. The clouds will keep highs in the mid to upper 50s, a little cooler than Friday. The clouds will stick around through at least the first half of Sunday, along with perhaps a few spotty showers.Another storm system will bring more rain chances Monday night into Tuesday, with the better chances likely lining up for Tuesday.
