Iowa weather: Storm chances overnight
LOVE IT. YEAH IT’S A GOOD STUFF. IT’S GOOD STUFF. WE WANT TO CHECK BACK IN NOW WITH METEOROLOGIST ANNE CAMPOLONGO. AND YOU’RE TRACKING SOME STORMS ACROSS PARTS OF THE STATE TONIGHT. YEAH. WE HAVE NOTHING SEVERE RIGHT NOW, BUT SOME GUSTY WINDS, SOME HEAVY RAIN, MAYBE SOME PONDING AND SOME ROADWAYS, ESPECIALLY INTO NORTHERN IOWA. NOW, AS WE HEAD INTO THE 10:00 HOUR, ALL POSSIBLE AS WE GO THROUGH THE EVENING TONIGHT. AGAIN, WE’VE GOT JUST SOME REGULAR THUNDERSTORMS, HEAVY DOWNPOURS THOUGH, LOTS OF LIGHTNING AND THUNDER. AND AGAIN, SOME GUSTY WINDS CAN’T BE RULED OUT INSIDE ANY OF THESE STORMS. WE’VE GOT A NICE DOWNPOURS GOING FROM STORM LAKE DOWN THROUGH IDA GROVE, BACK OVER TOWARDS MAPLETON. WE HAD A LITTLE BIT FURTHER TO OUR NORTH AND EAST POCAHONTAS UP THROUGH EMMETSBURG, OVER TO SPENCER AND THEN BACK OVER TO HUMBOLDT AND ALGONA. WE’VE GOT SOME GOOD DOWNPOURS GOING HERE, BASICALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 20. WE HEAD BACK TO OUR WEST THOUGH, WHERE WE HAVE MORE STORMS COMING OUT OF NEBRASKA, MOVING INTO WESTERN IOWA. HERE, AS WE HEAD INTO THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. NOTHING SEVERE RIGHT NOW ON THIS LINE, BUT THEY ARE A LITTLE BIT ON THE STRONGER SIDE. SOME WIND GUSTS MEASURED CLOSE TO THE OMAHA METRO AREA OR SO, UP TO ABOUT 40 TO 45MPH. SO SOME HEAVY RAIN, SOME STRONGER WINDS INSIDE THESE STORMS ALL POSSIBLE HERE AS WE HEAD INTO THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, YOU’LL SEE THE LIGHTNING FLASHING THERE OFF INTO THE DISTANCE. THIS VIEW FROM ALGONA WITH THE RAIN THAT HAS COOLED TEMPERATURES DOWN INTO THE LOW 70S. SO IT FEELS A LITTLE BIT BETTER OUT THERE. TEMPERATURES ARE STILL HANGING ON TO THE 80S FOR MOST SPOTS IN THE METRO AREA. FEELING LIKE THE 90S FOR PLACES LIKE ANKENY DES MOINES. FEELS LIKE CLOSE TO 90 DOWN IN INDIANOLA, SO IT IS STILL A WARM AND MUGGY NIGHT. ALL CLEAR THOUGH, AND QUIET IN DOWNTOWN DES MOINES. DEW POINTS, THOUGH STILL IN THE 70S. AND THAT’S NOT GOING TO CHANGE AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK. SO AS YOU HAVE HAVE FELT ALREADY THIS WEEK, YOU KNOW HOW STICKY, OPPRESSIVE LIKE FEELING IT IS OUTSIDE THAT’S GOING TO BE WITH US RIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. SO WE KEEP THE HIGH HUMIDITY AND HIGH DEW POINTS AROUND THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK. AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE TO THE EVENING HOURS TONIGHT, THIS MODEL BRINGING IN THE RAIN A LITTLE BIT FASTER THAN WHAT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING OUTSIDE. BUT NOTICE THOSE STORMS AS THEY GET CLOSER INTO CENTRAL IOWA BY ONE 2:00 TOMORROW MORNING. THEY DO WEAKEN A LITTLE BIT, SO MAYBE THEY DON’T FALL APART COMPLETELY, BUT I THINK THEY WILL LOSE A LITTLE BIT OF INTENSITY AS THEY GET CLOSER TO CENTRAL IOWA, HOPEFULLY. AND THEN WE’LL JUST BE DEALING WITH SOME RAIN SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. SO SOME EARLY RAIN TOMORROW MORNING SHOULD BE DONE WITH THROUGH MID MORNING. BUT NOTICE THE CLOUDS THAT ARE LEFT OVER, ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN IOWA. MAYBE SOME SUN BREAKS THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON THURSDAY. WE’LL SEE HOW FAR OUR TEMPERATURES GET. IF WE HAVE A LOT OF CLOUDS, WE’LL DEFINITELY BE A LITTLE BIT COOLER THAN EXPECTED. MORE SUNSHINE. WE COULD WARM UP A LITTLE BIT FASTER BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON AND EVENING. BEST CHANCE FOR STORMS IS MAINLY GOING TO STAY SOUTH OF I-80, I THINK. AND THEN AS WE GET INTO THE DAY ON FRIDAY, SOME ISOLATED STORMS LEFT OVER FOR THE END OF THE WEEK. TONIGHT WE’LL END UP RIGHT AROUND 70 OR SO, STILL WARM AND MUGGY TOMORROW. 80S, MID 80S, PROBABLY FOR THE AFTERNOON HOURS. STILL MUGGY. 83 FRIDAY WE WILL HEAT THINGS BACK UP IN
Storm chances return tonight after 10 p.m. and into Thursday morning as a mild cold front pushes through the state. The strongest storms will be into the northwest portion of the state with strong gusty winds being the main threat. Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts Storm chances will continue through Thursday with temperatures taking a small dip. The humidity will not drop as much, so expect these muggy days to persist through the week and into the weekend. Additional storm chances will pop up Friday, but mainly stay south. We dry up for the weekend, but temperatures will be back on the rise. The gulf moisture flow along with evapotranspiration due to mature crops will increase the humidity even more.
