AND THE FANS CHEERING YOU CAN JUST TELL HE’S HE’S BEYOND A LOCAL CELEBRITY IN MY EYES AT LEAST. AND ZANE THE BEST PART WAS THE WEATHER THIS EVENING AROUND 6:00 WAS NOT BAD. HE COULD DO THIS FIRST PITCH. YEAH. IT WAS IT WAS DRY OUT THERE. I MEAN, WELL, YOU KNOW THAT NO RAIN WAS JUST A LITTLE BIT STICKY OUT THERE, BUT, YOU KNOW, IT’S JULY, SO WE GOT TO KEEP OUR EXPECTATIONS LOW. WE’VE GOT SOME STORMS THOUGH OUTSIDE HERE THIS EVENING. OUR DOWNTOWN DES MOINES SKYCAM. IT’S POINTING OFF TO THE SOUTH AND THE WEST PERIODICALLY. IF WE WAIT LONG ENOUGH, YOU MIGHT SEE A LITTLE BIT OF SOME LIGHTNING. THERE WE GO, OFF IN THE DISTANCE AS SOME OF THOSE STORMS NOW START TO MOVE THROUGH SOUTHERN IOWA. FOR NOW, THEY’RE NOT SEVERE. NOTHING GOING ON AT THIS MOMENT. COULD BE A COUPLE OF STRONGER CELLS THOUGH. LATE TONIGHT. AND THEN WE’VE GOT SOME HEAT. AS YOU PROBABLY HEARD BY NOW. STILL ON TRACK FOR NEXT WEEK. AT LEAST A FEW DAYS ARE PROBABLY GOING TO FEEL LIKE 100 DEGREES PLUS WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THE HUMIDITY. SO TONIGHT TO LEVEL TWO, RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER, MAINLY ACROSS THE SOUTHERN TWO THIRDS OF THE STATE HERE. THIS RUNS AFTER MIDNIGHT INTO MAYBE ABOUT SUNRISE. THAT’S KIND OF OUR WINDOW OF TIME THAT IS MOST LIKELY TO HAVE SOME HEAVY DOWNPOURS THAT COULD PRODUCE SOME FLASH FLOOD ISSUES, SOME DAMAGING WIND GUSTS, MAYBE A BRIEF SPIN UP TORNADO. BUT THAT THREAT IS FAIRLY LOW. IT’S JUST WORTH NOTING, JUST IN CASE THERE IS A FLOOD WATCH OVERNIGHT TOO. WE’VE JUST HAD YOU KNOW, WE HAD A LOT OF RAIN IN SOME SPOTS EARLY THIS MORNING, AND THERE’S GOING TO BE SOME HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS HERE LATER ON TONIGHT AS WELL. THAT COVERS A GOOD PORTION OF IOWA AS WELL AS USUAL. YOUR MOST VULNERABLE SPOTS, URBAN AREAS WITH ALL THE CONCRETE AND CEMENT AND EVERYTHING ELSE AND ANY LOW LYING AREAS. IF YOU LIVE NEAR ONE, YOU KNOW THOSE SPOTS COULD EASILY BECOME WATER FILLED VERY QUICKLY TONIGHT. SO JUST BE AWARE OF THAT NOW. RAINFALL POTENTIAL YOU CAN KIND OF MAKE OUT HERE. THERE’S GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT OF SOME SCATTERED ACTIVITY. THE LATEST MODELING HAS TAKEN SOME OF THIS RAINFALL OVERNIGHT MORE FOCUSED INTO THE SOUTHERN HALF OF IOWA. BUT THE MAIN PICTURE HERE IS WHEREVER YOU DO GET A COUPLE OF STORMS TONIGHT, YOU’VE GOT THE POTENTIAL FOR ONE, 2 OR 3IN OF RAIN. AND YOU SEE THOSE KIND OF PURPLISH TO RED COLORS. THERE’S GOING TO BE PROBABLY SOME LOCALLY, YOU KNOW, A FEW HEAVIER AMOUNTS THAN THAT RIGHT NOW JUST TO SORT OF BROKEN ARC OF SOME STORMS STRETCHING DOWN FROM I-80 TOWARDS BASICALLY GUTHRIE AND ADAIR COUNTIES AND THEN OFF TO THE SOUTH AND THE EAST, MOVING OFF TO THE EAST, WE’RE GOING TO SEE MORE STORMS SORT OF BLOSSOM ACROSS THE MIDDLE OF THE STATE HERE. AS WE HEAD INTO TONIGHT, YOU CAN SEE IF YOU SHOW WHERE THE MODEL INITIALIZES ITS THAT’S NOT QUITE WHAT’S HAPPENING. SO WE’VE GOT TO TAKE THIS WITH A LITTLE BIT OF GRAIN OF SALT. WHEN YOU’RE DOING VERY SHORT RANGE THUNDERSTORMS SORT OF FORECASTING HERE. BUT THE GENERAL PICTURE IS AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT FEW HOURS PAST MIDNIGHT, STORMS WILL BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD BECAUSE WE’RE GOING TO DEVELOP SORT OF A BELT OF STRONG WINDS COMING OUT OF KANSAS AND MISSOURI. WHAT THAT DOES IS THAT BASICALLY FORCES AIR TO GO UPWARDS OVER IOWA, AND IT ALSO DELIVERS US A LOT MORE MOISTURE AS WELL. SO STORMS BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD AS WE GO PAST MIDNIGHT. THOSE WILL JUST KIND OF FESTER THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. THEN OF TOMORROW, THAT’S 3:00, 4:00, FIVE. AND THEN I THINK ONCE WE GET PAST DAYBREAK, ANY SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS PROBABLY DONE. WE’LL HAVE PROBABLY JUST SOME LINGERING SHOWERS AND A FEW STORMS. AND THEN ONCE WE GET FURTHER ON INTO THE MORNING, MOST OF THE RAIN IS DONE. OUR CLOUDS START TO BREAK UP AS WELL, AND THEN WE START TO SEE MORE SUNSHINE BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON, AND WE’LL GET RIGHT BACK INTO THOSE 80S. KIND OF LIKE WE SAW TODAY. STICKY 80. SO PROBABLY FEEL MORE LIKE 90S THEN THE PATTERN INTO NEXT WEEK. IT’S ALL ABOUT HEAT. MIGHT SEE A STORM OR TWO FOR THOSE RAGBRAI FOLKS EARLY MONDAY MORNING IN NORTHERN IOWA. AND THEN THE HEAT STEADILY BUILDS ACROSS IOWA THROUGH TUESDAY AND INTO WEDNESDAY. WE’RE KIND OF LOCKED UNDER THE HEAT AND THE MOISTURE, AND THEN THE BOUNDARY THAT BRINGS US OUR NEXT CHANCE OF RAIN. WELL, THAT’S STILL STUCK OFF TO THE NORTH AND THE WEST, AT LEAST THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK. SO THIS IS HOW WE END UP WITH A FEW DIFFERENT DAYS WHERE OUR TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO GO ABOVE 90 PLUS, ESPECIALLY TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK, HIGHS OF 93 AND 95. HEAT INDEX VALUES RIGHT IN THAT 105 TO 110 DEGREE RANGE FOR AT LEAST A FEW HOURS DURING THE AFTERNOON. MIGHT HAVE SOME TRIPLE DIGIT FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES THURSDAY TOO. BUT BY THEN YOU SAW THAT RAIN ON THE MAP TO THE NORTH AND WEST MIDDLE OF THE WEEK. THAT’S STILL A FEW SYSTEMS, AND THAT BOUNDARY WILL START TO MOVE OUR DIRECTION. SO WE INCREASE THE CHANCE OF RAIN AGAIN TOWARDS LATER NEXT WEEK. PEAK OF THE HEAT THOUGH IT’S THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK, AND IN THE MEANTIME, JUST KEEP YOUR EYE OUT AND KEEP YOUR ALER
