Iowa weather: Rain chances return on a cooler Wednesday
High pressure has filled in behind the system that brought us severe storms yesterday. That has kept us cool, dry and sunny today.Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts As it departs into Wednesday we'll see our cloudy skies and rain chances return for much of the day. That'll keep us cool again with high temperatures topping out in the low 60s. The area of low pressure bringing in the rain will push in from Missouri and trek into Illinois eventually taking the rain along with it. We may see some rain linger into Thursday morning, but much of the afternoon looks to be dry. That'll allow us to warm back up close to 70°. Another weak wave of energy will push into the state Friday bringing in another rain chance for much of the day Friday again keeping us a touch cooler with high temperatures in the middle 60s. High pressure builds in behind that system bringing in sunshine on Saturday and warmer temperatures with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. As the high shifts towards the Great Lakes southwest flow will return further bolstering our temperatures into the middle 70s Sunday and upper 70s Monday and Tuesday. The area of high pressure will linger over New England for some time continuing to influence our weather before finally breaking down and allowing another area of low pressure to advance from the mountain west. Depending how quickly this transition occurs we'll likely see our next chance for rain move in mid to late next week. At this time we're not looking at any severe weather over the forecast period.Iowa weather forecastToday: Mostly sunny. High near 65F. Breezy for the morning with weaker winds in the afternoon. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.Tonight: Partly cloudy. Low 45F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph.Tomorrow: Overcast with rain showers at times, especially in southern Iowa. Some isolated thunderstorms. High 62F.
