Iowa weather: Rainfall totals from thunderstorms last night
BE LIKE FOR FRIDAY NIGHT? FANTASTIC. YEAH. COOLER. SO FANS PLAYERS LOVE THIS TYPE OF WEATHER. THE FANS MAY WANT TO HAVE THAT EXTRA LAYER TO BUNDLE UP, BECAUSE FOR YOUR FRIDAY NIGHT HYPE GAMES, WE’RE STUCK IN THE 60S. EVEN BY 9:00. THE GAME WRAPPING UP NINE GOING TO 10:00. WE’RE GOING TO GO INTO THE 50S, SO TEMPERATURES DROPPING PRETTY, PRETTY QUICK SUNSET AROUND 641 THIS TIME OF YEAR. SOUTH WINDS STILL IN PLACE FOR MOST OF THE STATE. IT’S FUN WHEN YOU GET TO POINT OUT THESE TYPES OF FEATURES. WE HAVE THE SOUTH WIND IN THE METRO EVEN UP TOWARDS AMES, BUT JUST GOING FARTHER TO THE NORTH AND NORTHWEST. SPENCER WILL HAVE A NORTHWESTERLY WIND. WHAT’S GOING ON THERE? COLD FRONT IS NOW DRAPED OVER PARTS OF THE STATE. THAT’S WHAT’S PASSING OVER US, GIVING US THOSE STORMS THAT HAPPENED OVERNIGHT, STILL LINGERING OVER PARTS OF THE STATE THIS MORNING. BUT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THAT COLD FRONT CONTINUE TO PUSH OVER US, AND THAT’S GOING TO GIVE THOSE THE SHIFTING WINDS IN THE NORTHWEST WINDS RETURN AS WE GO INTO THIS AFTERNOON WITHOUT THOSE, IF THOSE IF WE JUST HAD SOUTHERLY WINDS, WE’D BE WELL INTO THE 80S LATER ON. SO AS FAR AS THE WINDS, THEY’RE KEEPING TEMPERATURES FROM CLIMBING TOO HIGH. AND WE ARE GOING TO BE DROPPING TEMPERATURES. THAT’S WHY WE HAVE A COOLER DAY ON SATURDAY. SATELLITE AND RADAR. THE RESULT OF THE COLD FRONT PASSING OVER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. BUT NOTICE THE COLD FRONT FARTHER TO THE NORTHWEST. RAIN OFF TO THE SOUTHEAST. THEY ARE GOING TO START TO BREAK APART AS THEY GET FARTHER AWAY FROM THAT DISTURBANCE. AND THAT’S SOMETHING THAT HOUR BY HOUR IS ALSO PICKING UP ON. STILL LINGERING THOUGH, BY 6:00. SO THAT’S YOUR START OF YOUR DAY AND YOU’RE WAKING UP AROUND OTTUMWA TO THE SOUTHEASTERN PORTION OF THE STATE. OR IF YOU’RE TRAVELING OUT THAT WAY, YOU WANT TO PLAN FOR SOME RAIN, BUT IT IS GOING TO BE WRAPPING UP BY 8:00, AND WE’RE GOING TO BE CLEARING THINGS UP FOR THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON. NOW, AS WE TALK ABOUT THE WINDS, YEAH, WE’LL HAVE THE NORTH WINDS THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON GOING THE EVENING, SATURDAY THEY ALREADY START TO SHIFT JUST A BIT. THE SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS, BUT PRETTY MANAGEABLE AS WE GET INTO OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. NOW THEY START TO PICK UP. IT’S GOING TO BE A BREEZY DAY TO END THE WORK IN THE WEEKEND. GOING INTO THE BEGINNING OF THE WORKWEEK. BUT AS FAR AS SATURDAY, SUNDAY WE’LL HAVE THE SOUTHEAST WINDS AROUND 20 UP TO 30 MILE PER HOUR. GUSTS WILL BE EXPECTED AND THEN BECOMING MORE SOUTHERLY, BUT THAT’S WHAT HELPS GET THOSE TEMPERATURES BACK UP. SO WE ARE LOOKING AT A PRETTY BIG TEMPERATURE SWING AS WE GO THROUGH THESE FALL DAYS AHEAD. TODAY’S FORECAST MID 70S TO LOW 70S. A LITTLE COOLER FARTHER TO THE NORTH AND NORTHWEST. OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WE FALL BACK DOWN INTO THE 40S, SETTING UP FOR A COOL START TO OUR WEEKEND. BUT THEN UPPER 60S GOING TO UPPER 70. THAT’S QUITE THE SWING AS WE TALK ABOUT THE HIGHS FOR THE AFTERNOONS TO COME. AND THEN MONDAY AND TUESDAY WE’RE BACK DOWN BEFORE WE TAKE THINGS RIGHT BACK UP, LOOKING AT RA
