Iowa weather: Record heat possible this weekend with temps in the 90s

The summer heat continues to intensify as high temperatures soar into the 90s today and this weekend.

P.M. AND AND WHILE IT IS HOT THIS WEEKEND, IT’S NOT HOT ENOUGH THAT YOU SHOULD AVOID GOING OUTSIDE. MAYBE JUST TAKE SOME WATER AND SOME SUNSCREEN. YEAH, DEFINITELY TAKE SOME BREAKS INSIDE. OR HAVE A PLACE TO GO INDOORS. DEFINITELY GOING TO FEEL MORE LIKE SUMMER OUT THIS WEEKEND. WE’RE TALKING HIGHS INTO THE MID 90S HERE AS WE HEAD INTO THE DAY ON YOUR SATURDAY. SO HERE’S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE THE CLOUDS EARLIER A FEW VERY BRIEF SHOWERS, MAYBE A RUMBLE OF THUNDER. BUT ALL OF THAT HAS COME TO AN END. SO WE ARE CLEARING THINGS OUT LATER ON TONIGHT. WE’LL DEFINITELY BE DRYING OUT AS WELL DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. WE’RE QUIET IN THE METRO AREA. WE’RE BACK TO THE POOL FORECAST. EVEN THOUGH I KNOW A LOT OF POOLS ARE PROBABLY ALREADY CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. BUT IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO BE AROUND A BODY OF WATER, MAYBE A SPRINKLER OR SOMETHING MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES WILL HANG OUT IN THE MID 90S, I THINK FROM THE EARLY AFTERNOON INTO THE LATE AFTERNOON. WE’RE TALKING ALL SUNSHINE TOMORROW AS WELL, SO I THINK WE’LL LOSE THE RAIN AND THE CLOUDS THAT WE HAD TODAY. AND WE’RE BACK TO SUNSHINE ON PRETTY MUCH FULL BLAST HERE AS WE HEAD INTO THE DAY ON SATURDAY. TEMPERATURES ARE STILL ON THE WARM AND SOMEWHAT MUGGY SIDE. WE’RE SITTING IN THE MID AND UPPER 70S TO LOW 80S DOWN ACROSS SOUTHWEST IOWA, MID 70S UP ACROSS NORTHERN IOWA. DEW POINTS IN THE MID 60S. AND THAT’S WHERE THE DEW POINT IS GOING TO HANG OUT HERE AS WE HEAD INTO THE WEEKEND. SO IT’LL BE A LITTLE BIT MORE IRRITATING. YOU’LL NOTICE THE HUMIDITY I THINK A LITTLE BIT BETTER HERE TOMORROW AND INTO THE DAY ON SUNDAY. WITH THOSE DEW POINTS SITTING IN THE 60S AND TEMPERATURES INTO THE 90S. NO RECORD TODAY. WE MADE IT TO 88. THAT WAS LATE IN THE AFTERNOON AFTER WE GOT RID OF THE CLOUDS HERE TODAY. BUT SATURDAY TEMPERATURES ARE BACK INTO THE MID 90S. SUNDAY WE’RE TALKING HIGHS ALSO IN THE 90S. I THINK SATURDAY WILL BE THE DAY TO WATCH. THAT’S WHERE WE HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF TYING OR MAYBE BEATING THE RECORD HERE HEADING INTO THE DAY TOMORROW. SO THE CLOUDS THAT WE HAD EARLIER, THOSE CLEAR OUT OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WE HEAD INTO THE DAY ON SATURDAY. I THINK WE’RE BACK TO SUNSHINE IN THE MORNING. WE’LL GO INTO THE AFTERNOON AND WE’LL ALSO KEEP THE SUNSHINE AROUND. WINDS WILL BE OUT OF THE SOUTH AND WEST HERE TOMORROW, SO A LITTLE BIT OF A BREEZE WITH SOME WINDS MAYBE GUSTING TO 15 20MPH. SUNDAY. ALSO LOOKING DRY BACK TO A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS THERE DURING THE MORNING HOURS. SO TONIGHT WE’RE BACK TO THE MID 60S HERE, RIGHT AROUND 70 IN THE CITY. OUTLYING AREAS MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT COOLER THAN THAT. TOMORROW’S FORECAST WARMS US UP VERY QUICKLY HERE. MID 80S. BY ABOUT LUNCHTIME OR SO. AND THEN AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON WE CLIMB INTO THE 90S. AND THAT’S PRETTY MUCH WHERE WE STAY THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON. TOMORROW’S FORECAST WILL PUT US BACK INTO THE 90S HERE. MORE SUNSHINE WILL STAY INTO THE 90S ON SUNDAY AS WELL. LOW 90S MONDAY AND TUESDAY, EVEN WEDNESDAY. STILL STAYING ON THE HOTTER SIDE OF THINGS. EVENTUALLY SOME MORE REFRESHING AIR MOVES I

The heat is kicking into high gear as we head into the weekend.Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts | SkycamsFortunately for us, the humidity does not look to be that high as we head into Saturday and Sunday. This means that the heat index won’t be like what we’ve seen earlier in the summer, so we are not looking at heat index values well into the triple digits. The 90s are with us at least through Tuesday of next week.We have the potential to tie a record high temperature both Saturday and Sunday. Not for sure a slam dunk, but we will be close to those thresholds as we head into the weekend. The smoke and haze has been limited today, but a thin layer of smoke will linger tonight into the day tomorrow. Air quality will likely fluctuate between good and moderate over the evening and into the start of the day tomorrow. Our rain chances continue to be very limited over the next week. Our next best chance to see some raindrops comes by late Sunday evening. Those chances will be fairly spotty across the state. Aside from Sunday, our next chance for any precipitation may not come again until next Thursday. Once we get through this stretch of 90s, the temperatures should mellow out back closer to average by the latter part of next week.
