Iowa weather: More showers possible Sunday
Breezy winds, smoke, and more rain return to the state early next week
FOR THE FIRST TIME. TAKING A LOOK OUTSIDE NOW. ZANE JUST KIND OF AN OVERCAST RAIN HERE AND THERE KIND OF DAY, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE TOMORROW’S SAME STORY FOR SOME FOLKS. YEAH, WE ARE GOING TO SEE SOME MORE RAIN AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW. IT’S GOING TO DEPEND A LITTLE BIT THOUGH, WHERE YOU’RE AT BO ON YOUR SUNDAY. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MAP HERE. FOR EXAMPLE. THIS IS YOUR SUNDAY TOMORROW, WHERE IF YOU’RE UP IN NORTHERN IOWA, YOU PROBABLY ACTUALLY HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF SEEING AT LEAST SOME SUNSHINE TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE TOWARDS THE MIDDLE AND UPPER 70S, WHERE YOU GET MORE INTO THOSE GREENER COLORS. SOUTHERN IOWA. YOU’RE PROBABLY MORE LIKELY TO HAVE SOME SHOWERS AT LEAST TOWARDS THE AFTERNOON HOURS, AND OUR TEMPERATURES MIGHT EVEN GET HELD DOWN INTO THE 60S ONCE AGAIN, SO IT WILL VARY A LITTLE BIT. TODAY’S RAINFALL VARIED QUITE A LOT. THIS IS THE RADAR ESTIMATES OF RAINFALL. WHEREVER YOU SEE A YELLOWISH DOT, THAT’S RADAR INDICATIONS OF OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN. WE GOT PROOF OF THAT FROM THE PERRY AIRPORT EARLIER. OTHER PARTS OF GREEN BOONE COUNTIES SAW SOME RAIN. WE’RE GOING TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT LATER ON FROM STATE SOCCER. STATE SOCCER UP IN AMES HAD SOME RAIN ISSUES THERE AND THEN DOWN ALONG THE MISSOURI BORDER IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA, TWO OUTSIDE TONIGHT. OBVIOUSLY IT’S QUIETER NOW. NOW THE SHOWERS COME BACK TOMORROW. WE’LL SHOW YOU THAT IN ONE SECOND. BREEZIER WINDS TO TOMORROW. AND THEN MONDAY. AND THEN WE’RE GOING TO BE HEATING UP. WE’RE GOING TO GET BACK TO SOME SUMMER, SUMMER SORT OF TEMPERATURES, MAYBE THE WARMEST SO FAR. YET THIS YEAR COMING UP BY MIDWEEK, JUST A FEW CLOUDS, A LITTLE BAND OF THEM STRETCHING ACROSS THE STATE. AT THIS HOUR, YOU SEE A LITTLE BROKEN LINE OF SHOWERS UP IN SOUTH DAKOTA THAT’S IN ADVANCE OF A FRONT THAT’S COMING OUR DIRECTION HERE INTO TOMORROW. IT’S ADVANCING PRETTY FAST AT THIS MOMENT. THAT BOUNDARY IS GOING TO HEAD INTO IOWA. IT WILL BRING US THE CHANCE OF RAIN, MORE WIND, AND ALSO MORE SMOKE AS WELL. AIR QUALITY HAS DETERIORATED QUITE A BIT OVER THE DAKOTAS HERE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING, AND SOME OF THAT SMOKE WILL SLIDE INTO IOWA BEHIND THAT BOUNDARY TOMORROW, AND THEN EVEN INTO PARTS OF MONDAY. WILL ALL OF IT NECESSARILY COME TO THE GROUND AND REDUCE AIR QUALITY? THAT’S STILL A LITTLE BIT UP IN THE AIR, BUT THERE WILL AT LEAST BE MORE OF SOME HAZE COMING BACK FROM THOSE CANADIAN WILDFIRES. SO THERE’S THAT FRONT COMING IN HERE TOMORROW MORNING, A LITTLE AFTER DAYBREAK HERE INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE STATE. AND THEN AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE MID-MORNING NOTICE, NOT A LOT OF RAIN. THERE’S NOT GOING TO BE LIKE A LINE OF STORMS ALONG IT. BUT FOLLOWING IN FROM THE WEST AND SOUTHWEST, WHERE THERE WILL BE SOME SCATTERED LIGHT TO MODERATE SHOWERS, I WOULD SAY AROUND I-80 AND SOUTHWARD FROM SOUTHWEST IOWA MID MORNING THROUGH THE AFTERNOON HOURS ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE STATE DES MOINES METRO AREA. PROBABLY COULD GET A LITTLE BIT WET HERE AS WELL. THEN WE’LL BE DRY LATER INTO YOUR SUNDAY NIGHT. MONDAY MORNING. HERE’S MONDAY MORNING, ANOTHER LITTLE BOUNDARY ACTUALLY SLIDES IN. THIS WILL GIVE US ANOTHER LITTLE PUSH OF SOME WIND, A FEW SCATTERED CLOUDS, AND AN ISOLATED SORT OF SPOTTY RAIN SHOWER INTO YOUR MONDAY, MIDDAY AND AFTERNOON HOURS ACROSS NORTHERN AND NORTHEASTERN IOWA. OTHERWISE, SCATTERED SORT OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE HERE TO START NEXT WORKWEEK FOR THE REST OF THE STATE, AND OUR WINDS WILL GET GUSTIER TOMORROW, PROBABLY SOME 20 TO 25 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS MONDAY. I THINK WE’LL SEE MORE. SOME 30 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS HERE TO START NEXT WEEK. SO NOT REALLY A, YOU KNOW, A RECIPE FOR A LOT OF HEAT 70S BOTH TOMORROW AND MONDAY WHERE YOU HAVE MORE RAIN TOMORROW. PROBABLY GOING TO BE JUST SOME 60S, ESPECIALLY IN SOUTHERN PARTS OF IOWA. THEN WE’RE GOING BACK TO THAT HEAT, BACK TO 80 AS SOON AS TUESDAY. DRY DAY THERE, WEDNESDAY ONWARD, THEN MID TO UPPER 80S ENOUGH HUMIDITY. WE’LL PROBABLY HAVE HEAT INDEX A LITTLE BIT WARMER THAN THAT TOO. AND A FEW POSSIBILITIES FOR SOME
