Smoke from Canadian wildfires rolls into Iowa this weekend

Smoke from Canadian wildfires rolls into Iowa this weekend
TONIGHT, AND THEY REALLY COULDN’T HAVE PICKED A BETTER DAY THIS WEEK. I THINK FOR ANY KIND OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. YEAH, IT’S BEEN PERFECT. I MEAN, GRANTED, WE’VE GOT THE SMOKE, BUT I MEAN, AIR QUALITY IS NOT TOO BAD AT THIS POINT AND IT’S WARM. IT’D BE NICE IF THE SUN COULD FIGHT THROUGH THAT, WOULDN’T IT BE? YEAH, YEAH. BUT ANYWAY, WE’VE GOT A NICE WEEKEND AHEAD TO. THINGS ARE GOING TO WARM UP. SPLASH PADS ARE GOING TO BE CRAZY, LET ME TELL YOU. YOU LOOK OUT THERE RIGHT NOW THAT YOU CAN SEE THAT SMOKE. IT IS TAKING OVER THE ENTIRE STATE. CANADA IS OFFICIALLY INVADING US WITH ITS WILDFIRE SMOKE. AND AS WE WORK OUR WAY INTO THE WEEKEND HERE, WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SEE THAT SMOKE BARRELING ITS WAY THROUGH MINNESOTA ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO IOWA. SO WE WORK OUR WAY THROUGH SATURDAY. WE’VE GOT THAT SMOKE SUNDAY, WE’VE GOT HEAVY SMOKE AS WELL. AGAIN, THAT COULD IMPACT YOUR AIR QUALITY. SO IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO BE OUTSIDE AND YOU’RE SENSITIVE TO THIS KIND OF THING, TAKE THOSE BREAKS AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU’RE DOING THAT, BECAUSE AGAIN, THIS IS GOING TO BE WITH US FOR A BIT HERE. YOUR HOUR BY HOUR FORECAST. NOT GOING TO SEE MUCH ON HERE AS FAR AS RAINFALL IS CONCERNED. WE’VE GOT CLEAR SKIES. BESIDES THAT SMOKE FOR MUCH OF THE WEEKEND, A LITTLE WEAK DISTURBANCE IS GOING TO GRAZE US ON THE SOUTHWESTERN EDGE OF THE STATE. OTHERWISE, SKIES STAY CLEAR. BESIDES THE SMOKE INTO THE DAY ON SUNDAY, WINDS PICK BACK UP ON MONDAY. THAT’S GOING TO PUSH THAT TEMPERATURE ON MONDAY. BACK CLOSE TO 90 DEGREES, IF NOT 90 DEGREES, COULD BE ONE OF THE WARMEST DAYS OF THE YEAR FOR US. SO IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO HEAD OUT TO THE PRINCIPAL CHARITY CLASSIC TOMORROW AGAIN, PLAN FOR THOSE SMOKY SKIES. BUT BESIDES THAT. DRESS IN THOSE SHORTS, MAYBE A TANK TOP AND MAKE SURE YOU GOT THOSE SUNGLASSES ON, BECAUSE WE’RE GOING TO BE WARMING UP BACK INTO THE MIDDLE 80S AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. 12 HOUR FORECAST AGAIN, STARTING OFF IN THE UPPER 50S, PUSHING BACK INTO THE MIDDLE 80S AS WE HEAD INTO THE AFTERNOON AGAIN, SKIES WON’T NECESSARILY BE CLEAR BECAUSE OF THE SMOKE, BUT WE WON’T HAVE ANY CLOUDS UP THERE THAT WILL BE FIGHTING THROUGH. SO 85 FOR THE METRO TOMORROW, 87 FOR GRINNELL, FORT DODGE AT 86 AREAS TO THE SOUTH IN THE MIDDLE 80S AS WELL. BUT LOOK AT THE DEGREES WE GAIN HERE, CLOSE TO 90 TO THE SOUTH ON MONDAY, CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE STATE SITTING RIGHT AROUND THE SAME 86 FOR NEWTON, BROOKLYN AT 87, TRAER AT 86. AND OFF TO THE NORTH 90 FOR YOUR SUNDAY AND 89 ON MONDAY. JUST A WARM STRETCH FOR US THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND HERE. AND AS WE HEAD TOWARDS NEXT WEEK, WE WILL BRING IN A CHANCE FOR A FEW SHOWERS. THAT’S LARGELY GOING TO BE TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY. GOT A CHANCE AGAIN ON THURSDAY FOR TONIGHT THOUGH. MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES, THAT TEMPERATURE DROPPING ONLY DOWN TO 57. AND YOU LOOK ACROSS THE STATE 55 FOR MASON CITY WATERLOO AT 55 AS WELL. OTTUMWA AT 57 AND 86 IN AMES PUSHING CLOSE TO 90 OFF TO THE WEST THERE IN SIOUX CITY COMING IN AT 87 EIGHT DAY FORECAST AGAIN KEEPING IT SMOKY THIS WEEKEND. WE HEAD IN TOWARDS NEXT WEEK. THERE’S THE RAIN CHANCE ON TUESDAY, AND WE GET A BIT OF A BREAK ON WEDNESDAY. TEMPERATURES COOLING DOWN THOUGH, AS WE HAVE A SOGGY DAY ON TUESDAY, RAIN TO START THE DAY, RAIN TO END THE DAY, AND THEN ANOTHER WEAK SYSTEM PUSHES THROUGH ON THURSDAY, BRINGING IN MORE CHANCES FOR SHOWERS, POTENTIAL FOR A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO.

Canadian wildfire smoke is moving in from the north and will be over Iowa for a large portion of the weekend. This will lead to some hazy skies along with vibrant sunrises and sunsets. This smoke may also impact our afternoon high temperatures for the weekend as well. Depending on how thick it becomes, it could limit our temperature climb by blocking/redirecting the suns energy. We are still expecting mid and even upper 80s, but we could be warmer under a smoke-free sky. Most of the smoke will stay stuck in the upper atmosphere, but there will be a chance for this smoke to mix down to the surface later this weekend. The earliest we could see this will come Saturday afternoon into Sunday. The smoke doesn't appear to impact air quality substantially over Iowa. The most impacted will be sensitive groups with possibly moderate air quality conditions for parts of the state. The smoke forecast can adjust over the coming days. » Subscribe to vlog's YouTube page» Download the free vlog app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play
