Iowa weather: Windy and cool Tuesday with frost possible before the end of the week
EVERYBODY. OH NO. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT A SIGNIFICANT WEATHER CHANGE. TEMPERATURE CHANGE JASON. OH YEAH I MEAN IT’S GOING TO BE IT’S GOING TO FEEL COLD TOMORROW. I MEAN GRANTED MID 50S ARE NOT LIKE FRIGID, BUT WHEN YOU INCORPORATE A 40 TO 45 MILE PER HOUR WIND, YEAH, IT’S GOING TO FEEL QUITE COLD. AND THEN WE LOOK BEYOND THERE AT YOUR FROST AND FREEZE POTENTIAL. THIS IS FOR WEDNESDAY MORNING. AREAS UP OFF TO THE NORTHWEST WILL HAVE THAT CHANCE FOR A HARD FREEZE IN SPOTS, AND WE’LL HAVE AREAS WITH POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD FROST. I THINK THERE’S GOING TO BE MUCH BETTER POTENTIAL AS WE PRESS ON INTO THURSDAY MORNING, BECAUSE THE WINDS WILL BE A LOT LIGHTER. THOSE DEW POINTS WILL BE A LITTLE BIT LOWER, AND THAT SHOULD HELP THAT FORMATION. BUT WE LOOK AT THE WIND CHILLS. EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT GETTING FROSTY, IT’S GOING TO BE WIND CHILL OUT THERE. WIND CHILLS TOMORROW MORNING IN THE LOW TO MID 30S. WE LOOK AHEAD TOWARDS WEDNESDAY MIDDLE 20S, ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE. METRO COMING IN AT 31 AS YOU WAKE UP 30 IN CRESTON, SO BUNDLE UP AS YOU HEAD ON OUT. AND THURSDAY MORNING LOOKING A LOT LIKE WEDNESDAY MORNING AGAIN. SOME SPOTS THOUGH TO THE NORTH WILL LIKELY SEE QUITE A BIT OF FROST. AND AGAIN, EVEN ACROSS THE STATE WE’LL HAVE THAT POTENTIAL. SO ANOTHER LOOK AT THE WINDS THAT YOU COULD EXPERIENCE TOMORROW BY NOON. ALREADY SEEING WIND GUSTS MID 30S TO MID 40S ACROSS THE STATE THAT WILL GET STRONGER THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON BEFORE FINALLY BACKING DOWN A LITTLE BIT INTO THE EVENING. STILL GUSTY INTO THE EVENING, BUT THOSE 45 MILE PER HOUR WINDS WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST. FINALLY, FOR US HEADING INTO WEDNESDAY. STILL SEEING AT LEAST SOME WINDINESS. BUT BY THURSDAY WE SHAKE THAT ENTIRELY. AND AGAIN, THAT’S PART OF THE REASON WHY WE’LL HAVE THAT POTENTIAL FOR SOME FROST IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS ON THURSDAY. SO A SYSTEM TO THE NORTH KIND OF PINWHEELING ITS WAY IN COULD BRING A STRAY SHOWER OR TWO, MAINLY THROUGH NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE. THAT CLOUD COVER GOING TO KEEP US A LITTLE BIT WARMER. BUT AS THAT DEPARTS, WE’RE GOING TO SEE A STOUT NORTHWEST BREEZE KICK BACK IN. THAT’S GOING TO HELP TO DRIVE IN DRIER AIR AND DROP THOSE TEMPERATURES AGAIN BY THURSDAY MORNING. SO YOU LOOK AT THE NEXT EIGHT DAYS HERE. THOSE TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE LOW TO MID 60S AGAIN TOMORROW SHOULD BE MIDDLE 50S OUT THERE FOR YOU. WITH THOSE SUNNY SKIES, RAIN CHANCES HOLD OFF UNTIL SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND INTO THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK. SO IT IS GOING TO BE BREEZY TOMORROW, BUT AT LEAST WE’VE GOT THE SUN TO PULL A POSITIVE FOR YOU. IT IS GOING TO BE VERY SUNNY OUT THERE. IT’S JUST GOING TO BE HARD TO ENJOY WITH WIND GUSTS UPWARDS OF 40 TO 45MPH AND TEMPERATURES ONLY IN THE MIDDLE 50S. SO WE LOOK AT OUR EARLIEST FREEZE TIME. THAT WAS SEPTEMBER 22ND. BACK IN 1995. I DON’T KNOW THAT WE’LL REACH 32 DEGREES, BUT WE USUALLY HAVE BY NOW. OCTOBER 14TH IS THAT EARLIEST FREEZE. LATEST IS NOVEMBER 13TH AT 2015. SO AREAS TO THE NORTH MAY NOT MAKE IT OUT OF THE 40S. CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE STATE IN THE MIDDLE 50S, SO NOT EXACTLY WARM. BUT AGAIN, WE’VE GOT THE SUN. WE’LL HAVE THE SUN FOR A FEW DAYS, AND THAT’S GOING TO HELP US WARM UP A BIT AS WE TOP OUT AT 60 ON WEDNESDAY. THOSE COLD MORNING LOWS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY WILL EVENTUALLY BE LEFT BEHIND. AND WE’RE BACK INTO THE MIDDLE 60S. BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND. RAIN CHANCES ROLLING EARLY NEXT WEEK. STILL SOME DISPARITY IN THE MODELS WITH EXACTLY HOW THEY LINE UP. WE’LL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THAT A

Strong low pressure will continue to push over the Great Lakes bringing chances for light rain into this evening, and keeping strong winds around into tomorrow. Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts | SkycamsTuesday will feel a bit more raw with gusts over 35mph possible and temperatures in the mid-50s. Drier air will continue to move in with this strong NW breeze, and as temperatures drop Wednesday and especially Thursday morning some of us will likely see our first frost of the season. As weak high pressure rides the heels of the low that brought us rain, we'll see quite a bit of sunshine Wednesday/Thursday which should help temperatures to inch back into the upper 50s Wednesday and low 60s Thursday. High pressure will then shift over the Great Lakes and make way for our next weather-maker moving in from the southwest. How strong the area of high pressure will hold will dictate who will carry rain chances Friday through Sunday. Right now it looks like only those along the Missouri border will see much from this system. Temperatures stick in the low 60s Friday/Saturday and middle 60s Sunday/Monday. Models point to more rain chances early next week, but are far away from any kind of agreement on the track or timing of that system. For now we'll keep an eye on it until we get closer.Keep an eye on weather across Iowa with vlog's skycamsWeather watchers can keep an eye on conditions by checking our skycam page, which shows aerial views from more than 20 sites across the state.Des Moines weather forecastToday: Mostly sunny and windy.
