Iowa weather: Storms move out of Iowa, sunshine expected Wednesday
Updated: 10:50 PM CDT May 21, 2024
WE HAVE A FULL LIST ON OUR WEBSITE AND AFTER A VERY, VERY BUSY DAY OF DAMAGING STORMS, IT’S NICE TO HAVE SOME PEACE AND QUIET NOW. SO EVERYBODY CAN RELAX A LITTLE BIT BEFORE THE CLEANUP REALLY GETS UNDERWAY. AND JASON SOUNDS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE A GOOD WEATHER FOR THAT AT LEAST THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. IT SHOULD BE. YEAH. I MEAN, WE’RE TALKING SUNNY SKIES, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT BREEZY AT TIMES, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE QUIET AND THAT’S THE MAIN THING. GIVE PEOPLE TIME TO ACTUALLY GET OUT THERE AND DO THIS. SO IT’S LOOKING LIKE WE’LL STAY THAT WAY FOR A LITTLE BIT. LOOKING OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW, ALL THE RAIN HAS MOVED ITS WAY ON. STILL DEALING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER OUT THERE, BUT ANY SHOWERS AT THIS POINT ARE OFF TO THE EAST AND THAT TERRIBLE STORM SYSTEM HAS WORKED ITS WAY UP INTO LAKE MICHIGAN. PUT DOWN QUITE A BIT OF RAIN THOUGH TOO, AS WE SAW THERE ARE AREAS THAT ARE SEEING SOME FLOODING ISSUES. HAD A BULL’S EYE OF RAIN UP NEAR MASON CITY, AND THEN THAT TRACK OF STORMS WORKED ITS WAY EASTWARD AND BROUGHT IN SOME RAIN EARLY THIS MORNING. AND THEN MORE RAIN WITH THE STORMS THAT WE SAW THIS AFTERNOON. AND THERE WERE A LOT OF LOCATIONS THAT HAD FIVE PLUS INCHES BEFORE THIS LINE OF STORMS MOVED THROUGH. SO ADD AN INCH OR TWO TO THAT IN SPOTS AND THAT’S NOT A GOOD, GOOD SITUATION EITHER. STILL HAVE A FLOOD WARNING OUT THAT JUST GOES THROUGH. 1115 FOR A MESS OF COUNTIES TO THE EAST. AND AS WE HEAD INTO THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS HERE AGAIN, IT’S GOING TO BE QUIET FOR US. WINDS JUST GOING TO BE THE ONLY NOISY FACTOR. YOU CAN SEE A FEW SHOWERS OUT THERE, REALLY LIGHT STUFF AS WE START THE DAY. BY THE AFTERNOON IT’S LOOKING MUCH QUIETER. WINDS EVEN START TO BACK DOWN INTO THURSDAY MORNING AND YOU CAN SEE MUCH OF THE DAY ON THURSDAY, OR AT LEAST MUCH OF THE MORNING IS VERY QUIET AS WELL. AND WE’LL LIKELY SEE SOME SHOWERS AS WE HEAD INTO FRIDAY. BUT PRIOR TO THAT IT’S LOOKING VERY NICE AND LOOKING OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW. AGAIN, THINGS HAVE TAKEN A MUCH QUIETER TURN. STILL DEALING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER OVER THE METRO, BUT THE RAIN HAS STOPPED. THE WINDS HAVE LIGHTENED A BIT AND TEMPERATURES HAVE DROPPED. LOOK AT THE WARMTH THOUGH. STILL TO THE EAST. DAVENPORT STILL AT 77 WITH THE REST OF US IN THE 50S TO LOW 60. SO A QUIET NIGHT FOR US AND A QUIET DAY TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES STARTING OFF IN THE LOW TO MID 50S, AND WE’LL DEAL WITH A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER EARLY, PERHAPS AN ISOLATED SHOWER AFTER THAT, BACK UP INTO THE MIDDLE 70S WITH SUNNY SKIES. SO IF THERE IS CLEANUP YOU NEED TO DO TOMORROW IS A PRETTY GOOD DAY FOR THAT. AND YOU CAN SEE MOISTURE LEAVES US BEHIND ALTOGETHER INTO THE DAY TOMORROW. WE WILL EVENTUALLY START TO BUILD THAT BACK IN HERE AS WE HEAD INTO FRIDAY. SO DEW POINTS SURGING AGAIN BACK INTO THE LOW TO MID 60S. AND THAT’S GOING TO SET THE STAGE FOR MORE CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND WEAKER THUNDERSTORM. AMES NOT LOOKING AT A SEVERE THREAT HERE, BUT WE WILL BE SEEING MORE RAIN WORK. ITS WAY THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING AND INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON. SO SETTLE IN FOR A QUIET ONE TONIGHT, 52 AGAIN. WE GOT THOSE SKIES THAT ARE EVEN GOING TO BE CLEARING OUT AND TOMORROW, BESIDES AN ISOLATED SHOWER IN THE MORNING, WE’RE TALKING TEMPERATURES INTO THE MIDDLE 70S. SO PRETTY COMFORTABLE DAY AS WE LOOK ACROSS THE STATE. UPPER 40S TO LOW 50S, COOLER AIR THAN WE’VE HAD IN A BIT. AND ACROSS THE STATE. AGAIN, A FEW CLOUDS, PERHAPS AN ISOLATED SHOWER, EARLY TEMPERATURES LOW TO MID 70S, EIGHT DAY FORECAST. WE BRING IN THAT CHANCE FOR SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ON FRIDAY. BEHIND THAT, IF YOU’RE HEADED OUT TO GEORGE STRAIT, WE MAY HAVE A CHANCE AT A SHOWER, BUT I DO THINK WE’RE LOOKING PRETTY SAFE.
