Iowa weather: Rain chances and fall feels are headed our way

Lots of sunshine today will help to warm highs to near 80 degrees this afternoon before a cold front brings storms and cooler weather.

KIND OF HEADING IN THERE THIS WEEK. SOME FOLKS SEEING A LITTLE RAIN RIGHT NOW TOO. LITTLE RAIN NOW. AND WE’RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT SOME MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES COMING UP TO THE UPS AND DOWNS, JUST LIKE YOU GUYS ARE SAYING, ARE UPON US. SHOWERS RIGHT NOW, SPENCER DOWN TOWARDS QUINCY PAULINA AREA. AND WE HAD A LITTLE BIT FURTHER TO THE SOUTHEAST AND WE’RE DRY. THIS AREA OF RAIN CONTINUES TO SHRINK, CONTINUES TO DRY OUT AS THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE CASE AS IT PASSES ITS WAY SOUTHWARD HERE. SO AREAS LIKE FORT DODGE COULD STILL BE ON THE ORDER FOR A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN TONIGHT, BUT TOMORROW MORNING WE’LL GET KIND OF A RESURGENCE OF THAT MOISTURE AMES EASTWARD TOWARDS MARSHALLTOWN, CEDAR RAPIDS AREA, SEEING SOME SHOWERS AT 7 A.M. AND HEADING INTO THE LATER MORNING HOURS. YOU CAN SEE THOSE STORMS KIND OF DEVELOP TO THE EAST, NOT NECESSARILY TALKING ANYTHING SEVERE, BUT DECENT RAIN. WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED TO SEE SOME LIGHTNING WITHIN THOSE. BUT AS THIS FRONT PASSES THROUGH, IT WILL BE A LITTLE BIT MORE SCATTERED AS YOU GET FURTHER TO THE WEST, BUT STILL PLAN ON AT LEAST HIT OR MISS RAIN CHANCES INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS. ONCE THAT PASSES, WE’VE GOT MUCH COOLER AIR THAT’S GOING TO BE SETTLING IN, SO PLAN FOR TEMPERATURES ONLY TOPPING OUT IN THE UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S. AS FAR AS RAINFALL IS CONCERNED, NOT A TON ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. MOST OF US WON’T SEE MUCH AT ALL. MEASURABLE AREAS THAT DO MAYBE A 10TH TO 3/10 SOUTHEASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE, LIKE OTTUMWA EASTWARD, WILL HAVE A CHANCE AT PERHAPS A HALF AN INCH TO TWO THIRDS OF AN INCH OR SO. BUT WIND IS GOING TO START TO BE THE MAIN NAME OF THE GAME HERE FOR US AS WE ENTER THE END OF THE WORKWEEK. WIND GUSTS WEDNESDAY. NOT BAD. YOU’LL NOTICE AN UPTICK IN THE BREEZINESS WITH WINDS OF 20, MAYBE 25MPH HEADING IN TOWARDS THURSDAY. THAT’S GOING TO INCREASE TO AROUND 30MPH AND INTO FRIDAY. WE KEEP THOSE WINDS HIGH BEFORE FINALLY SEEING THOSE BACK DOWN INTO YOUR FRIDAY EVENING. SO 12 HOUR FORECAST FOR TOMORROW KEEPS THE BULK OF THAT RAIN. 1 P.M. IN PRYOR. YOU GET BEYOND THAT. STILL GOING TO SEE SOME HIT OR MISS SHOWERS OUT THERE, BUT NOT GOING TO BE REALLY AS WIDESPREAD TEMPERATURES ONLY TOPPING OUT IN THE UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S. 70 FOR THE METRO, 72 FOR OTTUMWA AREAS OFF TO THE SOUTH, HOVERING RIGHT AROUND 70 DEGREES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AND AGAIN, WE’LL HAVE THAT CHANCE FOR A SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM TOMORROW. BUT BY THURSDAY, NOT NEARLY AS HIGH OF LIKELIHOOD UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE STATE. MARSHALLTOWN AT 67 AND TO THE NORTH. HOW ABOUT A HIGH OF 61? IN FOREST CITY TOMORROW? YEAH, WE’RE GETTING CLOSE TO FALL HERE, AREN’T WE? AND YOU CAN SEE A CHANCE FOR A STRAY SHOWER ON THURSDAY. SO BY THURSDAY NIGHT, WE’LL HAVE A NEW LINE OF SHOWERS THAT WILL BE WORKING ITS WAY ON THROUGH THAT WILL CONTINUE INTO REALLY EARLY MORNING HOURS ON FRIDAY. SO FRIDAY MAINLY GOING TO BE A DRY DAY FOR US. YOU LOOK AT THE EIGHT DAY FORECAST HERE AND HEADING IN TOWARDS THE CY-HAWK SHOWDOWN. IT’S LOOKING PRETTY GOOD TEMPERATURE WISE THOUGH. IN THE MORNINGS. GOT A COUPLE COOLER ONES 45 THURSDAY MORNING, 48. SATURDAY MORNING 49. SUNDAY MORNING. THE WEEKEND THOUGH A THING OF BEAUTY. WE’RE IN THE 70S. SUNNY SKIES. AND IF YOU WEREN’T READY FOR THAT FALL DIP JUST YET, WELL, WE’VE GOT MORE WARMTH ON THE
