For those watching the Aer Lingus College Football Classic between Iowa State and Kansas State, it's cloudy today in Dublin with chances for light rain and a high of 71 degrees.
Back in Iowa, a few showers and isolated thunderstorms pushed across the metro overnight ahead of a cold front that is dropping in from the north. Those showers moved out early this morning, but left behind enough moisture for some patchy fog to develop. That fog is a little dense in spots, but will not last long as that cold front sweeps through the area this morning. The front will pull in some drier air that will clear out the fog by 6 to 7am in the metro, and by 9am across southern Iowa.
Behind the front, very comfortable conditions will move in for the rest of the day. Winds will be a little breezy at times coming in out of the northwest at 10 to 20mph with a few gusts to around 25mph. Temperatures will warm from the mid-60s this morning to low 70s by Noon. Afternoon highs will top out around 76 in the metro, but will be cooler in northern Iowa. The northwest breeze continues into tonight, pulling in the cooler air. Lows overnight will dip into the low 50s for most of the state, with a few spots potentially dipping into the upper 40s.
The cooler and less humid air will be fully entrenched across the region by Sunday leading to another fantastic afternoon. Highs will only reach the low to mid-70s for most of the state. The forecast Sunday night into Monday looks almost chilly as lows in the metro fall to around 50 degrees, and areas outside of town likely fall into the upper 40s. May need a light jacket for the morning for the first day of school! Tuesday and Wednesday's forecasts looks very similar before we slowly warm back toward 80 degrees by Thursday.
