Iowa weather: More hit or miss shower and storm chances with warm and muggy conditions lingering into the weekend
Yesterday's high of 95 in Des Moines is the hottest day of the year so far and 2 degrees shy of the daily record of 97 set in 1918.
Our warm and muggy atmosphere has led to some weak airmass thunderstorms, Thursday. With similar conditions in place Friday, we may see more of the same, though they will largely be confined to southeastern portions of the state.

Chances for an isolated shower or storm are possible again Saturday, though odds are rather low. Better chances will move in Sunday/Monday as a wave of energy moves its way into the state. We're not expecting anything by way of severe weather this weekend.
An area of low pressure will push its way into the state sometime around Tuesday/Wednesday and will be our next chance for strong storms. Right now, there are significant differences between the models with respect to track, timing and intensity that will be ironed out in the coming days.
Temperatures stay warm into next week with middle 80s likely throughout the 8-day forecast.
