whether you're strapping on skis for the first time this year or for the first time ever Fun Valley in Montezuma is a great place to tune up and work on your form. The owners admit the area best suits beginners and intermediate skiers because all 10 runs are wide providing plenty of room for mistakes. But with a vertical drop of 240 ft and plenty of bumps, inventive, expert skiers can still kick up their heels. It's not colorado, but it'll do I guess Fun Valley opened in 1969 with one rope tow. The area experienced steady but not phenomenal growth through the seventies and early eighties. About seven years ago, the owners of Fun Valley, we're at the crossroads. They either had to expand or slowly phased their way out of the business and that's when they began adding chairlifts. Fun valley now boasts three chairlifts and three rope toads. And this year the area will serve more than 20,000 skiers generally coming from within a 100 mile radius. Very good for Iowa, the chairlifts and some beautiful shape today and the temperature is good and my age, I think I'm real fortunate to be able to do it. Okay, how old are you? 76 Fun Valley provides free beginner lessons and has more than 650 sets of skis for rent and the owners say skiing fun Valley is really skiing Iowa, we have the same equipment that you go to any skiing in the United States.
