Iowa's first gentleman doing well nearly a year after cancer diagnosis
Nearly a year after his diagnosis, Iowa's First Gentleman continues to respond well to lung cancer treatment, according to Gov. Kim Reynolds.
Reynolds says they first noticed her husband Kevin's symptoms at the Iowa State Fair last year. He's since undergone radiation and chemotherapy, and is back to doing activities he loves, but the governor says it will be something he deals with for the rest of his life.
"He'll be on it forever," she said. "It's not curable, but it's basically — we talk about being in remission and treating it like a chronic illness. We're so grateful for, everybody asks all the time for all the prayers. They work and we're grateful and we feel really lucky that he's doing as well as he's doing."
The found that Iowa has the nation's second-highest cancer rate for the second year in a row. Gov. Reynolds says she's instructed the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services to look into the causes of the state's cancer cases.
