Mark Gronowski to have surgery, miss time after transfer to Iowa
CARL’S AUTO GROUP. IT WAS A GAME THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN 2020. BUT AS THE OLD SAYING GOES, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. IOWA AND MISSOURI. THE NASHVILLE BOWL GAME, MUSIC CITY BOWL, A CITY THAT ALWAYS KNOWS HOW TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. NASH VEGAS, A PLACE THAT AN UBER DRIVER ONCE TOLD ME, IF YOU’RE NOT CAREFUL, YOU COULD DO SOME HARM. HAWKEYES WERE LOOKING TO STAY OUT OF TROUBLE, GET A WIN AND FINISH OFF THE SEASON STRONG. HAWKEYES FIND THE BIG BOX. FIRST FLIP PASS FROM BRENDAN SULLIVAN TO TERRELL WASHINGTON. JUNIOR HAWKEYES TAKE A SEVEN NOTHING LEAD. WE WOULD BE TIED AT SEVEN AFTER A MISSOURI TOUCHDOWN. AND THAT TIE SHORT LIVED THE ENSUING KICKOFF. CADEN WHEATON, THE ALL-AMERICAN FOR A REASON, FOLKS. 100 YARDS. TOUCHDOWN FOR THE WALK ON THAT I IMAGINE WILL BE ON SCHOLARSHIP VERY SOON. FIRST CAREER KICKOFF RETURN TOUCHDOWN TYING THE LONGEST IN PROGRAM HISTORY, TYING THE LONGEST BOWL GAME KICKOFF RETURN WITH C.J. JONES, 14 SEVEN. AFTER THAT, MISSOURI, THOUGH THEIR PASSING ATTACK TORCHED THE IOWA SECONDARY. TOUCHDOWN RIGHT THERE MAKES IT 1414. IOWA WOULD SCORE BEFORE THE HALF AND MAKE IT 2114. THEY’RE GOING TO GET A DOUBLE DIGIT LEAD IN THE THIRD QUARTER THANKS TO DREW STEPHENS WITH A LITTLE CHIP SHOT. FIELD GOAL MAKES IT 2414. BUT HERE COMES MISSOURI. SIX YARD SCAMPER RIGHT HERE. MAKES IT 2421 BLAKE CRAIG THE KICKER FOR MISSOURI. HE’S GOING TO PLAY HERO THIS AFTERNOON. THAT IS A 51 YARDER. MAKES IT 2424. AND HE WASN’T DONE. HOW ABOUT 56 WITH FIVE TO GO. THIS IS A GUY THAT COMING INTO THE GAME WAS FIVE OF 14 ON FIELD GOALS OF 40 YARDS OR MORE. WELL THE HAWKEYES ARE NOW DOWN 2724 AND THEY NEED TO GET IN FIELD GOAL RANGE TO AT LEAST TIE IT. AND ON FOURTH AND ONE, THE QB SNEAK IS STUFFED. AND THAT WOULD DO IT. IOWA SQUANDERS THE DOUBLE DIGIT LEAD 2724. WE KNEW THE QUARTERBACK WAS PRETTY TALENTED AS WELL. YOU KNOW, THEY JUST MADE SOME SOME BIG PLAYS. YOU KNOW, WE JUST DIDN’T MAKE ENOUGH BIG PLAYS IN THAT SECOND QUARTER. PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE CAME OUT WITH A WIN AND THAT THERE’S REALLY NOT TOO MUCH TO SAY. I MEAN JUST WE GOT TO EXECUTE WHEN THE TIME IS TO EXECUTE AND WE JUST GOT TO MOVE FORWARD. I THINK THERE WAS A STAT EARLIER I READ IN THE YEAR THAT WAS KIND OF UNBELIEVABLE WHEN WE HAD EVEN A SEVEN POINT LEAD, I THINK IT WAS. OUR RECORD IS PRETTY -- GOOD. BUT YOU KNOW, WE KIND OF SQUELCH THAT ONE. YOU KNOW, UNFORTUNATELY. SO WE’LL GO BACK TO WORK. BUT NO, JUST AGAIN, REALLY PROUD OF OUR GUYS. A TALE OF TWO HALVES FOR THE IOWA HAWKEYE OFFENSE THIS AFTERNOON. THEY LOOKED AWESOME IN THE FIRST HALF. THEN IT FELT LIKE WE WERE WATCHING THE 2022 AND 2023 VERSIONS OF THE IOWA HAWKEYE OFFENSE IN THE SECOND HALF, 195 YARDS OF TOTAL OFFENSE COMPARED TO 102, JUST THR
