Octavia Spencer is getting into the best shape of her life with a little help from her fit and famous friend — Mark Wahlberg. Over the summer the Academy Award-winning actress started documenting her fitness journey on Instagram, sharing details and videos about her workouts, inspirations and accomplishments — talk about a major fitspiration!
The 46-year-old has been training with her costar from the soon-to-be released flick "Instant Family," and the two have been majorly gushing over each other on social media.
Over the summer Spencer to Wahlberg for being an “inspiration,” sharing with her fans a video he posted about her fitness transformation on his Instagram.
“I and so many others see you and your commitment to your fitness community,” she wrote in the caption. “Thanks for welcoming this neophyte with open arms. I’m in it to win it.”
Spencer has been training with Wahlberg and some other friends early every morning but that’s not all. She has committed to two-a-day workouts, in order to meet all of her fitness goals. And, she has managed to impress even her fitness role model.
“It’s 5:24, I’ve gotten hundreds of requests from very, very close and dear friends about coming over, working out with us and joining the 4 a.m. club,” Wahlberg said in a September Instagram video, referring to his invite-only workout club.
“This one [was the] first one to show up, shows up at 3:30 and puts in the work with Brian like no one has ever seen. I am so impressed. Oh, wow … talk about an inspiration,” he said to Spencer.
“I really am so impressed, you know what? You are really an inspiration. Talking about everything she’s going to accomplish, she went out there and made it happen and this is just another extension of that,” he continued.
In case you're wondering what type of workouts Spencer has been doing, they range from functional fitness exercises to to even — and all of her hard work is paying off. While she might not be losing a ton of weight right away, her body is transforming.
“I realized I don’t like getting on the scale because for me, doing all of this, two-a-days and stuff and it only saying eight pounds gone, that’s a tough eight pounds,” she said in late September in one of her videos.
She even posted a video on Oct. 24 claiming that Wahlberg’s supplements have been a game changer for her.
“I never go sleeveless. But here is what I want to show you. I’ve been working out for years and the cellulite on my arms has NEVER gone away. It’s melting away from my thighs, too!” she captioned the clip in which she shows off her arms.“The changes I’ve made? @performinspired supplements. Combined with balancing nutrition and the right workouts the changes are amazing.”
While it clearly takes major motivation to do embark on a serious fitness journey such as Spencer, she was smart to use the buddy system to help her achieve her goals — and science totally backs up her method.
One from the Journal of Social Sciences found that people easily embrace the exercise behaviors of those they surround themselves with, while from the journal Obesity suggests that people who are overweight can lose more weight if they spend time with fit friends. And, an alternative concluded that those who tried to lose weight and get in shape were much more successful when then they recruited pals to do it with them.
