Maryland shop now selling pot-flavored coffee
There's a buzz in the air at Moorenko's Ice Cream Shop in downtown Silver Spring.
Owner Susan Soorenko said in addition to her 30-plus flavors of ice cream, she's now selling coffee infused with cannabidiol, a main compound in marijuana.
The Costa Rican blend of java is called "Flower Power," and is made in Brooklyn. At Moorenko's, where a normal cup of coffee is $1.75, Flower Power is going for $5.95. The shop also sells take home packets, containing 30 grams each, for $15.
Soorenko stresses the coffee is legal and won't make you high.
"It's not intoxicating," Soorenko said. "I don't want to give people the impression if you drink enough of this you're going to see colors.
Instead, the coffee can help reduce anxiety, relieve pain and chronic headaches, and provide sounder sleep.
Moorenko's isn't planning to place Flower Power in its line of ice cream, and won't sell the product to anyone under 18.
"We're getting some traction and we'll see," Soorenko said. "If it's wonderful, we'll keep it going and I'll be thrilled to give the community something new and exciting."
