YVETTE WAS A RADIO HOST AT Q102 IN THE LATE 1980S, AND ITS STAR, 102.5, IN THE LATE 1990S. vlog’S BO BEAU BOWMAN TALKED TO YVETTE’S FRIENDS AND FORMER COWORKERS WHO REMEMBER HER AS A VERY FUNNY AND GENEROUS COLLEAGUE. YEAH, KATE GARNER IS THE NEWS DIRECTOR AT THE DES MOINES MEDIA GROUP NOW, BUT SHE WAS AN INTERN WHEN SHE FIRST MET YVETTE HOFFMAN, OR BETTER KNOWN BY LISTENERS BY HER RADIO NAME, KELLY FOX. WELL, WE STARTED THIS AT 530 THIS MORNING. YVETTE HOFFMAN WAS KNOWN AS KELLY FOX DURING HER TIME ON STAR 102. FIVE IN THE LATE 90S. HERE SHE IS HOSTING A TEDDY BEAR DRIVE FOLLOWING THE OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING IN 1995 AND AGAIN THAT SAME YEAR DURING THE COMBAT HUNGER EVENT. IT’S KIND OF HARD TO MISS US, ESPECIALLY WITH STAR 102.5. HEAR. KELLY FOX AND DON GIRARD ARE ON THE AIR RIGHT NOW. WE BECAME BUDS. SHE WAS MY FIRST MENTOR. KATE GARNER IS THE NEWS DIRECTOR FOR THE DES MOINES MEDIA GROUP, BUT WAS A HIGH SCHOOL INTERN WHEN SHE FIRST MET HOFFMAN. SHE WAS SO OVER EQUIPPED TO WORK OVERNIGHTS. SO WHEN SHE CAME BACK LATER AND DID MORNINGS, IT WAS LIKE FINALLY, FINALLY SOMEBODY SAW IT. HOFFMAN WAS THE REGULAR HOST ON STAR 102 FIVE MORNING SHOW UNTIL SHE AND HER HUSBAND MOVED TO THE TWIN CITIES IN THE EARLY 2000. GARNER SAYS THEY STAYED CLOSE FOR SEVERAL YEARS. SHE DESCRIBED HER REACTION TO HEARING THE NEWS SATURDAY AFTER THEY HAD BEEN SHOT. A COMBINED 17 TIMES. I GOT A NEWS ALERT FROM vlog AND MY INITIAL REACTION WAS JUST MY KNEES BUCKLED. COURT DOCUMENTS FILED AGAINST THE SHOOTER SAY JOHN HOFFMAN TRIED TO PUSH HIM OUT OF THEIR HOUSE WHEN HE WAS SHOT. THEN YVETTE TRIED TO SHUT THE DOOR ON THE SHOOTER BEFORE HE FIRED ON HER. THE REPORT SAYS THEIR DAUGHTER CALLED 911. GARNER SAYS SHE AND THE REST OF THE HOFFMAN’S RADIO FAMILY IN DES MOINES ARE GRATEFUL THEY ARE BOTH IN RECOVERY. FINDING OUT HOW MANY TIMES, ULTIMATELY, THEY HAD EACH BEEN SHOT. AND JOHN, JUST ONE SHOT, JUST MISSED HIS HEART. IT’S STAGGERING TO IMAGINE SURVIVING THAT. THAT SPEAKS TO HOW STRONG THEY BOTH ARE AS PEOPLE GARNER THERE. POINTING TO A FUNDRAISER SET UP BY THE PTO FOR A SCHOOL IN MINNESOTA WHERE YVETTE WORKED. YOU CAN FIND THE LINK TO THAT GOFUNDME ON O
