National Guard aircraft crashes during training mission in Oklahoma; no injuries reported
BURGER WAS OUT THERE ALL AFTERNOON GETTING DETAILS. TWO CREW MEMBERS, AN AIR FORCE PILOT AND A CIVILIAN CONTRACTOR NOT INJURED AT ALL, RIGHT BY KITCHEN LAKE. THANKFUL TO REPORT THAT THE TWO SOULS THAT WERE ON BOARD DID WALK AWAY FROM THIS PLANE CRASH. IT WAS AT THE INTERSECTION OF 119TH AND SOONER, LITERALLY A SIGN THAT SAYS 119TH AND SOONER IS EMBEDDED IN THE LEFT WING. THOSE ROAD SIGNS ARE STILL THERE ON THE AIRCRAFT. THE OKLAHOMA NATIONAL GUARD SAYS IT’S A SKYRAIDER, TWO AIRCRAFT AND THE CREW ON BOARD OPERATED OUT OF THE WILL ROGERS AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE. WHEN FIRE CREWS GOT TO THE SCENE. AS SOON AS WE ARRIVED ON SCENE, IT WAS REFRESHING TO SEE THE TWO PILOTS THAT WERE ON BOARD TELL US THAT EVERYBODY WAS OKAY. THE DOWNED POWER LINES QUICKLY BECAME THE PRIORITY, AND WE’RE TOLD ENGINE FAILURE IS THE REASON WHY THE PLANE HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING. THEY DID TAKE OUT A COUPLE POWER LINES WHEN THEY WERE BRINGING THE PLANE DOWN, HE SAID. THEY HAD SOME ENGINE FAILURE, SO HE WAS TRYING TO BRING THE PLANE DOWN IN A SAFE AREA. THE NATIONAL GUARD SAYS THE PLANE WAS IN FLIGHT FOR A TRAINING MISSION, BUT WHAT LED TO THE ENGINE FAILURE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATIO
