WHEN ANAHEIM DECIDED TO FIRE HEAD COACH GREG CRONIN, HE HAD NO IDEA HE WOULD END UP IN IOWA. BUT THE WILD ORGANIZATION SCOOPED UP THE BOSTON NATIVE, AND HERE WE GO. CRONIN TAKES OVER A TEAM THAT HAD BACK TO BACK LOSING SEASONS. TRAINING CAMP STARTED THIS WEEK IN THE NEW COACH HAS RETURNING GUYS SUCH AS BEN JONES, DAVID SPACEK AND CARSON LAMBOS AS HE TRIES TO EVALUATE HIS TALENT AND GET READY FOR NEXT SATURDAY’S SEASON OPENER. CRONIN IS ALSO FOCUSED ON MAKING PRACTICE FUN. WELL, WE HAVE A LOT OF SMALL GAMES TO START THE PRACTICE WITH, SMALL GAMES TRYING TO GET THE DOPAMINE, SEROTONIN FLOWING SO THEY, YOU KNOW, THEY START EARLY SO THEY GET A LITTLE ENERGY COMING OUT OF THAT. THE BATTLES I THINK ARE REALLY COMPETITIVE. AND THAT SPILLS OVER INTO THE PRACTICE. YOU KNOW, HE WANTS TO MAKE THE SEASON FUN. AND THAT’S THE BEST WAY THAT WE CAN DO IT IS OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE TO KIND OF WORK HARD AND PUT THE TIME IN. BUT YOU KNOW, YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO ENJOY IT AS WELL. IT’S A REALLY GOOD CHANGE FOR OUR GROUP AND I THINK IT’S GOING TO IT’S GOING TO TRANSLATE FOR US IN GAMES. AND, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET OFF TO A HOT START. It's been three years since the Iowa Wild have had a winning season. Enter: New head coach Greg Cronin. The Boston native was hired this offseason after being fired from the Anaheim Ducks, where he spent two seasons as head coach. Iowa's training camp started this week, and the new coach has returning players such as Ben Jones, David Spacek and Carson Lambos. Cronin is focused on evaluating his talent and also making practice fun. "You start the practice with small games to get the dopamine, serotonin flowing," Cronin said. "They get a little energy coming out of that." The season opener is against the Chicago Wolves at Casey's Center on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
