While Disney has helped popularize fairy tales with cartoon musicals ranging from “Beauty and the Beast” to “Aladdin,” the company has some competition in live-action remakes.
Disney has already voiced plans to do so with its 1989 classic of the “The Little Mermaid,” but that story and many other classic tales are in the public domain due to expired copyrights. That’s led other other production companies to make their own versions.
