The incredible discovery was made by a team from France's National Archaeological Institute who are carrying out a preventative dig ahead of construction. The amazing find includes ornate carved artwork and sculpture fragments, including a detailed head sculpture believed to be a representation of christ. Also revealed where ancient tombs from the Middle Ages, including a sarcophagus, experts say, may contain the body of a high church official from as early as the 14th century. The 850 year old cathedral was nearly destroyed by a large fire in 2019.
