SO PEOPLE HAD TO UPROOT THEIR LIVES AND MOVE OUT OF THE AREA. ECONOMIC LEADERS SAY THE RETURN OF 600 FULL TIME JOBS AT THE FACILITY WILL HELP THE REGION’S ECONOMY, BUT SO WILL THOUSANDS OF CONSTRUCTION JOBS AHEAD OF THE RESTART. CONSTELLATION ENERGY SAYS THEY’RE ON SCHEDULE FOR THE RESTART OF REACTOR UNIT ONE, AND DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED TO FEDERAL REGULATORS SHOW A TARGET OF OPENING BY THE END OF THE SECOND QUARTER IN 2027. BUT SOME OPPONENTS OF REOPENING THE FACILITY, LIKE ERIC EPSTEIN OF DAUPHIN COUNTY, SAY THE 1979 NUCLEAR DISASTER INVOLVING THE OTHER REACTOR UNIT SHOW WHY CONSTELLATION WILL HAVE TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE IN ITS PLAN TO HANDLE AN EMERGENCY OR DISASTER.
