SOGGY START TO THE DAY EVERY MEMBER OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IS UP FOR ELECTION OR REELECTION. THAT INCLUDES ALL FOUR OF IOWA’S CONGRESSIONAL SEATS. THE CANDIDATES IN IOWA’S THIRD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RACE ARE MAKING THEIR FINAL PITCH TO VOTERS. IT’S ONE OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE RACES IN THE COUNTRY. CHIEF POLITICAL REPORTER AMANDA RUCKER SPOKE WITH BOTH CANDIDATES TONIGHT AS THEY CLOSE OUT THEIR TIME ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL. AMANDA. WELL, BEN, STACEY, REPUBLICAN INCUMBENT ZACH NUNN WON THIS SEAT BY ROUGHLY 2000 VOTES IN 2022. THAT’S A PRETTY CLOSE RACE, AND IT’S EXPECTED TO BE ANOTHER INCREDIBLY CLOSE CONTEST AS DEMOCRAT LENNON BECKUM LOOKS TO FLIP THIS SEAT TO BLUE. BOTH CANDIDATES SPENT THE DAY KNOCKING DOORS, CALLING VOTERS, SPENDING EVERY LAST MINUTE TRYING TO GET EVERY LAST VOTER TO THE POLLS. SURROUNDED BY SUPPORTERS RALLYING IN ALTOONA. WE ARE 24 HOURS AWAY FROM WHAT THE NEXT CHAPTER OF AMERICA GETS TO LOOK LIKE. ZACH NUNN DELIVERED HIS CLOSING ARGUMENT. HERE’S WHAT I OFFER TO YOU IN THE THIRD DISTRICT, FRIENDS. THIS IS THE MOST COMPETITIVE DISTRICT IN AMERICA. WE WILL DELIVER. WE HAVE STOOD FOR REPUBLICAN PRINCIPLES, BUT WE’VE WORKED WITH INDEPENDENTS AND DEMOCRATS TO HAVE REAL LEGISLATION THAT CHANGES PEOPLE’S LIVES. THE REPUBLICAN INCUMBENT, FEELING CONFIDENT ABOUT HIS GROUND GAME. WE HAVE KNOCKED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOORS JUST IN THE LAST THREE DAYS ALONE. WE’VE GOT GOOD PHONE CALLS OUT THERE, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE’RE VERY FOCUSED ON MAKING SURE REPUBLICANS TURN OUT TO VOTE. AND WE’VE SEEN THIS IN REAL NUMBERS HERE IN IOWA. WE HAVE ALREADY SURPASSED WHERE WE WERE IN 2016. WE’VE CUT THE DEMOCRATIC ADVANTAGE IN HALF. MEANWHILE, IN FRANKLIN JUNIOR HIGH IN DES MOINES AND IN JUST 24 HOURS, WE’RE GOING TO MAKE HISTORY. DEMOCRAT LYNDON BUCHANAN MADE HIS FINAL PITCH. THERE’S NO QUESTION I’M GOING TO FIGHT FOR OUR FRIENDS IN LABOR. I’M GOING TO FIGHT FOR OUR EDUCATION AND I’M GOING TO PASS THE WOMEN’S HEALTH PROTECTION ACT, AND WE’RE GOING TO RESTORE ROE AS THE LAW OF THE LAND. IN AN INTERVIEW BEFORE HIS RALLY, BECKUM TOLD vlog HE’S WORKING TO TURN OUT THE LARGE DEMOCRATIC VOTER BASE IN POLK COUNTY. BUT HE BELIEVES HE’S ALSO MAKING INROADS IN THE MORE RURAL REPUBLICAN PARTS OF THE DISTRICT. I GREW UP IN A SMALL TOWN. I WORKED AT THE US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. I UNDERSTAND WHAT LIFE IS LIKE IN OUR RURAL TOWNS AND COUNTIES ACROSS IOWA, AND THAT’S WHY I’M FOCUSING ON THOSE AREAS AS WELL. FOR ME, IT’S REPRESENTING EVERYONE IN THIS DISTRICT IN OUR CITIES LIKE DES MOINES, TO OUR SUBURBS IN DALLAS COUNTY AND TO OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE THIRD DISTRICT AS WELL. I’M GOING TO REPRESENT EVERYONE I CAN HERE IN IOWA. BOTH CANDIDATES ENDING THE NIGHT, THANKING SUPPORTERS AND REMINDING IOWANS THAT EVERY VOTE COUNTS. I ALSO TALKED WITH BOTH OF THESE CANDIDATES ABOUT THE DES MOINES REGISTER, MEDIACOM, IOWA POLL THAT REALLY SENT SHOCK WAVES ACROSS THE COUNTRY SATURDAY WHEN IT FOUND KAMALA HARRIS AHEAD OF DONALD TRUMP IN IOWA BY THREE PERCENTAGE POINTS. THOUGH THAT LEAD IS WITHIN THE MARGIN OF ERROR, NUNN SAYS HE’S NOT GIVING THAT POLL TOO MUCH THOUGHT. HE FEELS THE HIGH NUMBER OF REPUBLICANS VOTING EARLY IN IOWA SHOWS ENTHUSIASM AND MOMENTUM FOR HIS PARTY. HERE, BUT HE ALSO SAYS HE’S NOT DWELLING ON THE POLL. HE SAYS HE NEEDS TO KEEP WORKING TO GET VOTERS TO THE POLLS, THOUGH HE DID TELL ME HE THINKS THAT POLL CAPTURED A SHIFT TOWARDS DEMOCRATS, THAT HE SAYS HE’S ALSO HEARING FROM VOTERS ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL. WE’LL SEE ON TOMORROW NIGHT, STACEY. OH, WE WILL BE WATCHING. CERTAINLY. AMANDA. THANKS. NOW, NON-LED BECAME IN NEARLY EVERY IOWA POLL EXCEPT THE FINAL ONE IN THE LAST IOWA POLL CONDUCTED BETWEEN OCTOBER 28TH AND THE 30TH. IOWA VOTERS SAY THEY WERE MORE LIKELY TO VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRAT THAN THE REPUBLICAN IN THIS RACE. THE DEMOCRAT WAS FAVORED IN THE RACE 48% TO 41%. THE MAXIMUM MARGIN OF ERROR FOR THE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS IS PLUS OR MINU
