Drone pilot tracks down dog that had jar stuck on head in Pennsylvania
A dog spotted in York County, Pennsylvania, with a jar stuck on her head has been caught and is now being cared for at a veterinary clinic.
said they were first made aware of the distressed dog on Sunday.
Volunteers searched for the dog, but whenever anyone spotted her, no one could get close. The dog kept running into a cornfield.
"That plastic container is down to, I would say, about a quarter of the way down its neck, and it's been seen trying to get it off, and it can't get it off. So, it's not getting water. It's not getting food. We're worried about it getting proper oxygen," said Beth Miller, a volunteer at Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania, before the dog was caught.
The rescue
Around 3 a.m. Wednesday, with the help of a drone, the dog was spotted deep in a cornfield. She was disoriented, exhausted and still struggling with the jar, according to Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania.
"Nighthawk Drone Services was able to locate and help Canine Rescue of Central PA rescue this dog tonight. We saved this dog's life for sure. It was a great team effort," drone pilot Dallas Fuhrman said on Facebook.
In honor of Fuhrman, the dog has been named Dallas.
Jar removed
We're getting our first look at Dallas as she's recovering. Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania posted a photo on Facebook Wednesday morning (below).
"Dallas is suffering from severe dehydration, is infested with ticks, and is clearly in distress. She is now receiving the urgent care she needs, and we are awaiting bloodwork to better understand her full condition," the post said. "The rescue of Dallas was only possible because of a compassionate community that refused to give up. From drone pilots to search teams to every person who kept sharing her story — Thank you!!! Now begins the next part of her journey: healing."
