Fort Dodge community continues to spread kindness five years after beloved pastor killed
NEW TONIGHT. THE FORT DODGE COMMUNITY IS SPREADING KINDNESS. FIVE YEARS AFTER THIS BELOVED PASTOR WAS KILLED. AL HENDERSON WAS ATTACKED OUTSIDE HIS CHURCH AND DIED FROM HIS INJURIES BACK IN 2019. TONIGHT, vlog IS PEPPER PURPURA JOINED HIS LOVED ONES AT A GATHERING TO REMEMBER HENDERSON AND CONTINUE HIS LEGACY OF KINDNESS. GATHERED IN THE SHADE OF CITY SQUARE PARK, STORIES ARE BEING EXCHANGED ABOUT A MAN WHO TOUCHED THE HEARTS OF EACH PERSON PRESENT ON FRIDAY. EVERYBODY HAD A STORY OF HOW THEY KNEW, AND YOU KNOW MY DAD. I PERSONALLY MISS HIM. EACH AND EVERY DAY BECAUSE IT’S AMAZING HOW MANY TIMES WHEN YOU HAND OUT THAT CARD AND SOMEBODY WILL SAY, OH MAN, HE WAS SUCH A SPECIAL MAN. ON OCTOBER 2ND OF 2019, PASTOR AL HENDERSON WAS ATTACKED AND FATALLY INJURED. WE LOST SOMEONE VERY SPECIAL AND APPARENTLY THIS COMMUNITY DID TOO. AN AVID SUPPORTER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND A CHAPLAIN TO MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS, HENDERSON SHAPED CONVERSATIONS AROUND MENTAL HEALTH THROUGHOUT WEBSTER COUNTY. HE OPENED A WINDOW THAT IT WAS OKAY FOR US TO GET MENTAL EVALUATIONS AND TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE BOTHERING US, AND THAT WAS KIND OF A TABOO. YEARS AGO, HE ALSO CREATED THE NONPROFIT SERVING OUR SERVANTS, OR S.O.S., TO EXPAND THE SUPPORT. FIVE YEARS LATER, T.J. PINGEL RUNS THE PROGRAM. IT’S ONE OF THE WAYS HENDERSON’S SPIRIT CARRIES ON. IT’S THERAPEUTIC DOING THIS, BUT ALSO SO ENJOYABLE. JUST TO BE ABLE TO HELP THESE GUYS GET TO KNOW THEM. PASTOR HENDERSON ALWAYS LIKE TO TELL PEOPLE TO CARRY ON, BUT EVERY FALL, THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE HIM STOP AND TAKE A DAY TO REMEMBER HIM. FIVE YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH, DOZENS CONTINUE TO STOP BY THE ANNUAL EVENT AND HONOR HENDERSON. FUNDRAISING FOR EFFORTS DEAR TO HIS HEART AND CONNECTING PEOPLE WITH SUPPORT. I’M VERY PROUD OF MY FAMILY AND VERY GRATEFUL. PROUD OF THIS COMMUNITY. BUT ESPECIALLY HUMBLED. HUMBLED BY THE IMPACT HER LATE HUSBAND CONTINUES TO HAVE. HE SHOWED US THE COMPASSION THAT PEOPLE NEED IN THEIR LIVES AND THE LOVE HE INSPIRED THROUGH HIS LEGACY. IN FORT DODGE, PEPPER PAPURA vlog EIGHT NEWS, IOWA’S NEWS LEADER. HE SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT MAN TO HONOR. HENDERSON SERVING OUR SERVANTS IS HOPING. EXCUSE ME. TO BUILD A PAVILION IN HIS HONOR. EACH PILLAR OF THE SHELTER WILL HONOR THE DEPARTMENTS. HENDERSON WAS A CHAPLAIN FOR. S.O.S. HAS A GOAL OF $100,000 TO BUILD A MEMORIAL. THE LINK TO DONATE WILL BE ON TH
