The 52nd edition of RAGBRAI is already making history, more than three months before the ride actually begins. The Day 2 route from Milford to Estherville will briefly take riders into Minnesota. That's the first time the annual bike ride has included a trip outside Iowa's borders.“Jackson County Parks are thrilled to have RAGBRAI riders bike into Minnesota and past our four southern campgrounds,” Jeremy Bartosh, Jackson County Parks and Trails, said in a news release announcing the full route. “We look forward to hosting them for a short break at Brown Park South on July 21st!”Browns Park South is located just a few blocks north of the Minnesota-Iowa border, directly north of Spirit Lake.The Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota says saying no was never an option."We're delighted to be a part of it," said Michael Wojcik, of the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota. "Our partners and friends down in Jackson County are really thrilled to show off our hospitality, and our amenities, and our scenic beauty as well."RAGBRAI Ride Director Matt Phippen says the detour into Minnesota makes sense."When you get that close to the border, you gotta find a way to go in. We were super close," Phippen said.Extensive partnerships with local organizations facilitated meticulous planning for a smooth ride."We've worked with the Minnesota DOT, Minnesota Bike Coalition, Minnesota Sheriff, Minnesota County and the Minnesota Parks Group. And they're super excited to help us host riders," Phippen said.Phippen praised the willingness and enthusiasm of local agencies to contribute, emphasizing that the collaborative spirit streamlined everything.The excursion out of Iowa won't last long, about 15 miles.
