'She’s just a beautiful, special dog': Rescue dog begins new life as service animal
FELICITY CHANDI I JUST SPOKE WITH BELLA’S PILOT. THEY’RE TAKING A LAYOVER TONIGHT IN ILLINOIS. IT SOUNDS LIKE HER SPIRITS HAVE ONLY GOTTEN HIGHER SINCE PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR SENT HER OFF FROM THE AIRPORT THIS MORNING. GOODBYE, BELLA. BELLA THE BEAGLE MIX TAKING TO THE SKIES SATURDAY. BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE PARTIALLY PARALYZED. PUP IS HEADED FROM BUTLER COUNTY TO COLORADO TO BECOME A SERVICE ANIMAL. BELLA CAME TO THE BUTLER COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY UNABLE TO USE HER BACK LEGS. NOW SHE HAS SOME WHEELS, A RED DRESS, A LOT OF CONFIDENCE, AND EVEN A PRIVATE JET TAKING HER TO A NEW BEGINNING. IT’S A DREAM COME TRUE FOR US. THE BELLA GETS THIS CHANCE AT THIS WONDERFUL NEW LIFE, BUT IT’S VERY EMOTIONAL. A TEAM OF THREE PILOTS BRINGING BELLA TO HER NEW OWNER IN COLORADO. THEY’RE TAKING EXTRA PRECAUTIONS TO ENSURE SHE ARRIVES TO HER NEW HOME SAFELY. WE’RE GOING TO KEEP HER AT A SAFE ALTITUDE. I HAVE HEADGEAR FOR HER, HER BIG EARS. I’M SURPRISED THEY FIT IN THERE, BUT SHE’S GOT THESE BIG OLD EARS. WE’VE GOT THE PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR FOR HER. SATURDAY NIGHT, THEY’RE GETTING SOME WELL-DESERVED REST IN ILLINOIS BEFORE FINISHING THE JOURNEY. WE’RE GOING TO PULL OVER EVERY 2 TO 3 HOURS, MAKE SURE SHE GETS WHAT SHE NEEDS, LET HER DO WHAT SHE CAN TO MAKE SURE SHE’S AS COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE. ONCE BELLA MAKES HER GRAND ENTRANCE, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SPECIAL NEEDS PET OWNER KEVIN MCGUFF PLANS TO INTEGRATE BELLA INTO HER EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, WORK WITH CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. IT’S SOMETHING HER FRIENDS FROM BUTLER COUNTY KNOW SHE’LL EXCEL IN. SHE’S JUST A BEAUTIFUL, SPECIAL DOG. SHE’S THE MOST GENTLE DOG AND BECAME IMMEDIATELY THE SWEETHEART OF THE SHELTER. THE COMMUNITY RECOGNIZED THAT AS WELL, IMMEDIATELY COMING TOGETHER TO FUND BELLA’S TRIP. HUNTER CALLED US. WE HAD PUT A PLEA OUT FOR SOMEONE, AND WITHIN FOUR DAYS, OUR COMMUNITY OF BUTLER COUNTY RAISED THE MINIMUM $5,000 THAT WE NEEDED. BELLA IS LEAVING FROM ILLINOIS BRIGHT AND EARLY TOMORROW TO THEN GO LAND IN COLORADO AND MEET HER NEW FOREVER FAMILY.
