Over one year later, biological family will lay Sabrina Ray to rest
Over one year after her death, a 16-year-old teen believed to have been starved to death by her adoptive family will be laid to rest.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday for Sabrina Ray.
Authorities found the Perry teen dead in the home of Marc and Misty Ray in May of 2017. The couple is charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death.
Ray's biological family finally received her remains after a long court battle.
"I was really overwhelmed that I was able to get them,” said Eugene Busch, Sabrina Ray’s biological grandfather.
Busch said Ray’s service will be held in Earlham and that his family wants the community to attend.
"The fire department, the police department, all law enforcement … even the public up there, they showed their love and concern (for Ray),” he said.
He said laying Ray to rest will bring closure and give her biological family and the community a chance to celebrate her short life and its lasting impression.
"There were two to three other children that were rescued because of Sabrina Ray's death,” Busch said. “Sorry to say that, but I think, you know, it helped out maybe."
The service for Ray starts at 2:30 p.m. at the Earlham Church of Christ.
