The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a after a California-based egg company recalled brown eggs sold in seven states.
The August Egg Company has recalled 1.7 million dozen brown eggs and brown certified organic eggs because they could be contaminated with salmonella. The eggs were sold to restaurants and retailers in New Mexico, Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Nevada, Washington and Wyoming. They were available at retail locations including Walmart, Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raleys, Food 4 Less and Ralphs.
According to August Egg Company, the eggs were sold with sell-by dates from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025. The recalled eggs will have a plant code number P-6562 or CA5330 printed on the carton or package, with Julian dates between 32 and 126. Julian dates are 3- to 7-digit numbers that indicate when an item was made.
According to the CDC, 79 people have fallen ill with salmonella during this outbreak, and 21 people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
The CDC recommends throwing out recalled eggs or returning them to the store where they were purchased.
