Pro driver takes combine for a spin ahead of IndyCar weekend in Iowa
SEASON. TENNESSEE RATHER, SANTINO FERRUCCI HAS BEEN RACING CARS MOST OF HIS LIFE. THE MAN HAS THE NEED FOR SPEED DRIVING A COMBINE THAT WAS A DIFFERENT KIND OF COOL. THE INDYCAR DRIVER IS IN TOWN FOR THIS WEEKEND AND EXPLORE THE MANNING AG SERVICE FARM IN WAUKEE. SHANNON EARHART WAS ALONG FOR THE RIDE. DID THE COMBINE HAVE THE BIG GREEN STUFF ACROSS THE FRONT? OKAY, IT’S A LITTLE BIT BIGGER THAN WHAT WE DRIVE. THIS GOTTA HAVE A HELL OF AN INSTRUCTIONS BOOK. SANTINO FERRUCCI, DRIVER OF THE 14 CAR, KICKED OFF HIS INDYCAR RACE WEEKEND BY GETTING COMFORTABLE. SO YOU JUST SIT HERE AND JUST HANG OUT. NEED A TV IN HERE IN A COMBINE? THAT WAS A FIRST FOR ME. SO YOU GET TO SEE HIM ALL THE TIME. IT’S COOL. YOU GET TO SEE HIM GOING DOWN THE ROAD. SO TO GET TO EXPERIENCE IT FIRSTHAND WAS PRETTY AMAZING. BEFORE FERRUCCI TOOK THE WHEEL, BOB MANNING, OWNER OF MANNING AG SERVICE FARM AND INDYCAR SPONSOR STEVE SUKUP, SHOWED THE CONNECTICUT NATIVE HOW CORN GROWS. IOWA. THEY KNOW HOW FULL YOU HAVE. JUST THAT ONE RIG TO FOR ALL 6000 ACRES. YES THEY DO. THE TYPE OF FARMING THAT WE HAD WAS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. SO WE HAVE A LOT OF DAIRY FARMS OR PUMPKINS. YOU ALSO DON’T GET TO SEE COMBINES IN CONNECTICUT BECAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE, SAY, THE 6000 PLUS ACRES THAT YOU SEE HERE ON THIS FARM ABOUT TO GO TAKE IT FOR A LAP, TRYING NOT TO HIT ANYTHING WAS PROBABLY FIRST PRIORITY. THE CORN STALKS, I FEEL LIKE THEY’RE LIKE 15FT HIGH. BUT THEN AGAIN, I’M NOT VERY TALL, SO THIS IS INSANE. TELL ME WHAT YOU’RE DOING HERE. I AM TAKING THIS COMBINE BRIEFLY AROUND A LITTLE LAP HERE. I MEAN, THIS THING’S INSANE. IT’S SO BIG. AND I WAS IN THE COMBINE WHEN THIS ALL WENT DOWN. I CAN CONFIDENTLY SAY, IF YOU DRIVE LIKE THAT, YOU WILL NOT WIN THE RACE BECAUSE IT WASN’T VERY FAST. NO, NO, I TOOK MY TIME. I DON’T WANT TO HIT ANYTHING. I WANT TO STAY OFF THE FUEL. WELL, SANTINO FERRUCCI TOOK THIS BEAST JUST ONE LAP AROUND THE MANNING AG SERVICE FARMS. HE WILL TAKE HIS RACE CAR, 550 LAPS OVER THE SPAN OF TWO DAYS AROUND THE IOWA SPEEDWAY. ONCE JUST BIG AND GREEN. AND, YOU KNOW, MOVES HEAVEN AND EARTH. AND THE OTHER ONE JUST GOES AROUND THE FLAT TOP REALLY QUICK. SHANNON EARHART, vlog IOWA’S SPORTS LEADER. THAT’S FANTASTIC. AWESOME STORY. SHANNON. FRIDAY AT THE IOWA SPEEDWAY. WE’VE GOT PRACTICE SESSIONS AND AUTOGRAPHS. SATURDAY, 1230 THE INDIAN NXT BY FIRESTONE RACE. AND THEN THE FIRST OF THE INDYCAR DOUBLEHEADER RACES IS AT 4:00 SUNDAY AT NOON. THE OTHER INDYCAR RACE, THE FARM TO FINISH 275. THE GRAND MARSHALS WILL BE JOSHUA JEFFERSON FROM IOWA STATE AND FORMER HAWKE
