St. Edmond softball star having huge season with dad by her side
No matter the size of the school, fans will find softball talent scattered throughout Iowa. And up in Fort Dodge, 1A St. Edmond boasts one of the best players around: Mariah Myers.
Myers is the 2025 softball Gatorade Player of the Year in Iowa and is committed to continue her career at Iowa. This season every team she faces her name circled on the lineup card and instead of pitching to the star, they are just giving her a free pass.
"I take it as a sign of respect," Myer said. "I've been getting intentionally walked a lot."
Because of this, she leads the entire state of Iowa, regardless of class size, in walks and on-base percentage. But when she gets a pitch to hit, she doesn't miss. She is batting .648 on the year with eight home runs. Those numbers are no surprise to her assistant coach, Bill Myers, who also happens to be her dad.
"Mariah's always been a good hitter," Bill said.
And it's Bill who played a major role in shaping her into the hitter she is today.
"He's been our hitting coach," Mariah said. "He's focused on hitting ever since we started softball."
