St. Edmond softball star having huge season with dad by her side
THE 2025 GATORADE IOWA SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR IS FROM A1A SCHOOL CALLED SAINT EDMOND. BUT DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE SIZE MARIAH MYERS IS NO SMALL PUP. SHE IS A BIG DOG. RECENTLY, I’VE BEEN GETTING INTENTIONALLY WALKED, SO LIKE, I DON’T REALLY GET AT BATS A LOT. SAINT EDMOND’S MARIAH MYERS IS CIRCLED ON EVERY COACH’S BATTING LINEUP. THERE’S BEEN A FEW TIMES WHERE IT’S LIKE 3 OR 4 TIMES A GAME. SHE GETS OVER TO FIRST BASE. SHE’S LIKE, I TRY TO TAKE IT WITH AS MUCH RESPECT AS I CAN. SHE LEADS THE STATE IN RUNS SCORED AND WALKS, SO THAT’S THAT’S SOMETHING FOR HER. I GUESS IF YOU CAN’T SWING IT, YOU MIGHT AS WELL LEAD SOMETHING. SHE’S HITTING 648 WITH A 7.96 ON BASE PERCENTAGE. 1350 SLUGGING WITH EIGHT HOME RUNS. HE WAS LIKE, YOU’RE A BIG DOG. LIKE, WE GOT TO GET A BIG DOG CHAIN. SO THAT’S KIND OF BEEN LIKE OUR THING. LIKE, YOU’RE A BIG DOG AND WHOEVER HITS HOME RUNS ARE BIG DOGS. SO IT HAS LIKE A DOG BOWL ON IT. MARIAH’S ALWAYS BEEN A REALLY GOOD HITTER. BILL MYERS PLAYS THE ROLE OF ASSISTANT COACH AND DAD. HE FOCUSED ON HITTING A LOT, A LOT, A LOT AND WORKED ON, LIKE WITH ME AND MY SISTER. LIKE EVER SINCE WE STARTED SOFTBALL AND HITTING, THEY ALWAYS GET US MIXED UP BECAUSE WE LOOK LIKE ALMOST IDENTICAL. SO LIKE, IT’S KIND OF FUNNY, LIKE THEY THINK I’M RIHANNA OR SHE’S ME, BUT ONE IS COMMITTED TO IOWA WHILE THE OTHER IS IN EIGHTH GRADE. MARIAH PLAYED SHORTSTOP AND RIHANNA THE EIGHTH GRADERS THE SECOND BASEMAN. SO THEY PLAY MIDDLES FOR US. SO THE EIGHTH GRADER IS SHE LISTENS TO EVERYTHING SHE SAYS BECAUSE SHE’S NOT CONTROLLING NOTHING. SO MARIAH KNOWS WHAT SHE’S DOING. MARIAH CHOSE IOWA OVER 15 OTHER SCHOOLS. OUR FAMILY HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIG HAWKEYE FAN, SO IT’S IT’S KIND OF A DREAM COME TRUE.
