Do you remember Tamagotchis? They were just inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. The electronic toys were first released in the U.S. in 1997 and became an instant sensation.
Stores struggled to keep the "addicting" toy in stock as demand soared.
These egg-shaped digital pets required feeding, playing and even cleaning, creating a unique bond for their owners. Children and adults alike were captivated.
"They represent happiness and hunger. The more those hearts are filled, the more satisfied the Tamagotchi is," a shopper explained.
