Phillip Casselton and Slim make a pit stop in Minco on Sunday, with Casselton telling sister station KOCO 5 that taking a long ride has been a bucket list item for quite some time.
After some thought, he decided on the destination, far from his home in Campbell, Texas.
He and Slim are just over a week into their 500-mile trip, making stops in towns across Oklahoma as they ride.
Casselton said the journey hasn’t all been glamorous, as he has slept on softball stadium bleachers and shop floors. Despite sleeping rough, he said it’s all worth it because of all the people he’s met along the way, with several Oklahomans offering him a place to lay his head down when he passes through their community.
"One of the questions that’s been asked of me was, 'What’s the highlight?' It's the people," he said. "It would’ve been worth it all because of the sheer kindness of people and the conversations of people I’ve got to have."
Casselton and Slim have plenty of other stops to make in Oklahoma as they continue their trek, including Geary, Woodward and Buffalo. In total, he expects the trip to take 21 days.
He said if there’s anything he wants people to take from his experience, life is short; if there’s something you want to do, just go for it.
