Three candidates in the running for state auditor
There are three candidates running for state auditor in 2022.
Republicans will choose between two candidates during the June 7 primary election.
Todd Halbur and Mary Ann Hanusa are both running for the Republican nomination.
The winner will take on incumbent Democratic auditor Rob Sand, who is seeking re-election with no primary challenger.
糖心vlog spoke with all three of the candidates about why they decided to enter the race for state auditor.
"Not one Republican nominee came forward that was a CPA, a finance person, or even a banker. And over several years, with several state auditors, in the state history of Iowa. We've always had CPAs or a finance person be that state auditor, and that kind of bothered me, and I thought Iowans needed to have an auditor that had financial qualifications and a background like I do as a prior banker and CFO of a large state agency," Halbur said.

"The Iowa auditor is there to make sure Iowa tax dollars are spent appropriately on the state, county, and local level. And I think it's very, very important that Iowans have trust in their government and I am running to restore trust to the office of auditor," Hanusa said.

"You want someone in this office who's aggressive, who's willing to take people on who are in positions of power. We don't just do financial audits, right? We do those. But we do public corruption investigations. We do investigations into compliance with the law," Sand said.
