Tornado and hail damage in Ringgold County leaves over 20 homes uninhabitable
Friday night's severe weather, including several tornadoes, displaced a number of Ringgold County families.
According to Melissia Stark, the Ringgold County Emergency Management Coordinator, over 50 homes were damaged across the county, 20 of which have been deemed uninhabitable.
However, Stark said there is still plenty to be grateful for.
"The community coming together has been absolutely amazing. And we are incredibly fortunate that nobody was injured just considering the extent of damages that we see," she said.
One of the tornadoes swept through the property of Craig and Suz Winemiller, destroying their two cattle sheds and leaving a mess behind.
"I bet we were down there 30 seconds and it was over," Craig Winemiller said. "We worked so hard to build all this, and then, boom, it's gone."
Thankfully, many community members came out to help the Mount Ayr beef producers.
Right after Winemiller made one phone call, he said 60 people came on four-wheelers to safely gather the herd.
"They just start bringing cattle and bringing cattle and bring in cattle. And it was it was amazing. The people that showed up. You know, one phone call and bam," he said.
The Winemillers said they hope to be back to work again in the next couple of months.
