President Donald Trump has threatened to expand his military deployments to more Democratic-led cities, including Baltimore, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, as part of his ongoing efforts to address immigration and crime.For nearly two weeks, National Guard members have been patrolling Washington, D.C., and some have started carrying guns. The president suggested on social media that he might send National Guard troops into Baltimore after Maryland's governor invited him to visit the state and walk the streets.Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland expressed his opposition to the potential deployment, saying, "When we're thinking about the fact that it serves as a distraction from the fact that the president's disastrous economic policies are making everything more expensive for everyday Americans, is making life harder for everyday Americans. There is a multitude of reasons that I am against this, and I will not authorize the Maryland National Guard to be utilized for this."The president mentioned on Friday there have been calls from Democrats in other cities to clean up their cities, but he did not disclose who made those requests.Governors are usually the ones who call in the National Guard during natural disasters and other emergencies. However, there are federal statutes that give the president of the United States the authority to call in the National Guard.
