It’s a booking struggle — you book a flight for vacation and even if you think you’re getting the best deal, a few weeks later, the price drops.
Google is now testing out a free price guarantee program for Google Flights to curb buyer’s remorse.
Here’s how it will work: when you’re on the site, some flights will have a colorful shield icon with a dollar sign. That badge is a “price guarantee” meaning Google is confident that the price is the lowest it will get. If it does drop, you’ll get the difference in a refund through Google Pay.
You don’t need to pay with Google Pay to qualify, that’s just how you’ll get your money back. If you don’t have an account, Google will send you instructions on how to do it. You do have to book your flight through the “Book on Google” function within Google Flights.
So instead of using the site to find a deal, then clicking through to finish booking on the airline’s website, you’ll complete the entire transaction within Google Flights.
For right now, you’ll find the most price-guarantee badges on Alaska, Hawaiian and Spirit Airlines flights during this pilot phase but Google says they’re going to expand to more carriers soon.
