But as vlog's Beau Bowman shows us... there was an important piece of the contest missing this year. <nat from this year's contest> Over the last three years-- the Iowa State Fair's husband calling contest-- has become a must-see. <another contestant> Much of it thanks to the performances of Bonnie Swalwell Eilert-- always calling out for her late husband, Roy. <Bonnie: ROOYYYYY> Friday's show-- was the first since her passing. <7197 Virginia Stone 7:06-10"Bonnie was an institution not only for the husband calling contest but for the fair in general."> Many saw her as the blue ribbon standard. And her fame grew with the contest. <7196 Wendy Bryce 6:06-19"I watched so many videos of her and she's just a wonderful presence. You would always come here and people would want to take selfies with her and everything and so yes it definitely feels like one of our competitors is missing, again as people always look forward to seeing her"> But what many people didn't know-- is that Pioneer Hall was just a small part of her role at the fair. And her heart lays just down the hill. <hymn sing nat> Bonnie was also a dedicated volunteer during the hymn sing at First Church. <another hymn nat> <7236 Don Hiscox 2:05-11"People come to the hymn sing every year and they see her, they're just like long BEAU BOWMAN, vlog 8 NEWS, INL.
