MALACHI ROBERTS WAS LEFT BLIND WHEN RANDOM GUNFIRE TORE THROUGH HIS LEXINGTON HOME JUST DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS IN 2020 ON SATURDAY THE SIX YEAR OLD GOT TO MEET AN ALDABRA TORTOISE AND A SOUTHERN WHITE RHINOCEROS IN ADDITION TO OTHER COOL ANIMALS NOW, IT’S ALL PART OF THE PROGRAM. A young survivor of gun violence got up close and personal with some of the Louisville Zoo's most popular animals.Malakai Roberts lost his sight when random gunfire tore through his Lexington, Kentucky, home just days before Christmas in 2020. The 6-year-old got to meet one of the zoo's Al-dabra tortoises and its southern white rhinoceros.It is all part of a program from Game Changers and Future Healers called "Got Zoo Buddies."The program explores the healing and therapeutic power between animals and young kids who have experienced trauma from violence.
