Iowa weather: Tracking the big weekend cooldown

Iowa weather: Tracking the big weekend cooldown
VERY LOCAL APP. SATURDAYS AT 1030. AND BY SATURDAY IT’S GOING TO FEEL SO MUCH DIFFERENT AROUND HERE. YESTERDAY WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. AND THEN EVERYTHING CHANGES. YES, AND BIG CHANGES, ESPECIALLY FOR THE GAME. LOOKING AT A WET GAME FOR ANYONE THAT’S GOING TO BE GOING OUT TO IOWA CITY. BUT OVERALL THE WEEKEND VERY TURBULENT FOR US AS WE TALK ABOUT SATURDAY, SCATTERED SHOWERS EXPECTED, FEELING LIKE THE 30S ALL DAY LONG. ONE OF THOSE KIND OF DAYS. AND THEN COLDER AIR MOVES IN FOR SATURDAY NIGHT. THERE WILL BE A CHANCE FOR SOME RAIN, SNOW MIX, EVEN A POSSIBILITY. NORTHERN IOWA THROUGHOUT THE DAYTIME HOURS. EVEN ON SATURDAY AND THEN SUNDAY. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE EXPECTING AS FAR AS THE WIND CHILLS INTO THE TEENS WAKING UP. AS WE TALK ABOUT THE LAST DAY OF OUR WEEKEND MORNING AROUND 9 A.M. ON SUNDAY. SO IT IS DEFINITELY A MUCH COLDER START. HEADED OUR WAY AS WE GET INTO THE WEEKEND, BUT BETWEEN NOW AND THEN WE STILL HAVE SOME FAIRLY MILD EVEN ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES. ON FRIDAY, EXPECT TO BE AROUND TEN DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE, BUT YOU STILL HAVE THAT BREEZE AS YOU HEAD OUT THE DOOR. GUSTS AT LAST CHECK SAYING A LOT OF THEM FAVORING THAT 20 TO 30 MILE PER HOUR RANGE. SO IT IS PICKING UP, PUTTING THAT EXTRA CHILL IN THE AIR AS YOU GET YOUR WEDNESDAY STARTED. SATELLITE AND RADAR NOT SEEING ANY RAIN. SOME CLOUDS PASSING OVER THIS MORNING, BUT THE EXIT THROUGH THE LATER MORNING HOURS. SUNNY, BREEZY, STILL CHILLY AS WE GET TO 10:00 GOING INTO THE AFTERNOON STARTS TO DECLINE SO THE WINDS NOT GOING TO BE BAD ON THE RIDE HOME. IN FACT, WE’LL HAVE CLEAR SKIES, PRETTY CALM WINDS EVEN AS WE GO INTO THE EVENING. SO YOUR EVENING PLANS WILL BE JUST FINE. JUST. YEAH, A LITTLE ON THE COOLER SIDE. SOUTH WINDS KICK IT IN GEAR AGAIN AS WE GO THROUGHOUT A BREEZY THURSDAY. CLOUDS MOVE BACK IN. STILL STAYING DRY. A CHANCE FOR RAIN RETURNS MAINLY EAST OF I-35. AS WE TALK ABOUT THURSDAY EVENING OVERNIGHT, I’M EXPECTING THIS TO KIND OF SHIFT A LITTLE BIT FARTHER TO THE WEST, SO I AM GOING TO BE EXPECTING SOME OF OUR TOWNS AND COUNTIES TO SEE A LITTLE BIT MORE OF THOSE ISOLATED SHOWERS TO WAKE, NOT QUITE WAKE UP TO ON FRIDAY MORNING, BUT OVERNIGHT THURSDAY GOING TO VERY EARLY FRIDAY AS THEY PASS OVER. NOW ANOTHER BREEZY DAY ON FRIDAY. WE DON’T GET RID OF THIS BREEZE. IT’S GOING TO BE PRETTY PERSISTENT, CHIPPING AWAY AT US DAY BY DAY. AND THEN FOR SATURDAY, THE WINDS STILL IN GEAR AND ALSO NOW THE COLD AIR MOVES IN THE WIND CHILL. 9 A.M. SATURDAY MORNING. GOING INTO THE AFTERNOON, IT’S GOING TO FEEL LIKE THE 30S ALL DAY LONG OVER MOST OF THE STATE AS WE GET INTO SATURDAY NIGHT. NOW THE WIND CHILL CONTINUES TO DROP. ANY NIGHTTIME PLANS YOU HAVE, YOU NEED THE LAYERS IN ANY SUNDAY MORNING PLANS. EXTRA LAYERS WOULD FEEL LIKE IN THE TEENS AS FAR AS THE RAIN NOT GOING TO QUITE TRANSITION TO SNOW OVER MOST OF THE STATE THROUGHOUT THE DAYTIME, THE BETTER CHANCE FOR SOME OF THAT RAIN SNOW MIX WILL BE INTO NORTHERN IOWA ALONG AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 20. AS WE GO THROUGHOUT SATURDAY, AND THEN ANYTHING RESIDUAL SATURDAY NIGHT THAT WILL BE THE BETTER CHANCE FOR ANY TYPE OF SNOWFLAKES IN THE MIX. SO THE EIGHT DAY FORECAST, THE WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTING THE COLD AIR, HARD FREEZE RETURNS SUNDAY MORNING. THAT’S THE FIRST ONE FOR MOST OF THE STAT

We are waking up with a breeze as a cold front passed overnight. Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts | SkycamsExpect gusts around 20 to 35 mph from the northwest through the morning with weaker winds for the afternoon and overnight. Plenty of sunshine, but cold air is settling in which will keep us in the 50s for highs. Thursday will bring more clouds and strong south winds with highs back near 60. Rain chances will be possible late Thursday and into early Friday for areas along and east of I-35. Conditions will stay breezy but manageable until we get into the weekend. An area of low pressure will be making its way over the Midwest which will lead to showers through most of Saturday. This will also unlock the cold arctic air from the north and allow it to push southward over Iowa. We will be dropping temperatures into the evening and overnight into Sunday. Any lingering rain and moisture will be transitioning to a mix and eventually snowflakes as temperatures drop. We are starting to see more agreement with models pointing to snow chances climbing. However, accumulation chances are still remaining quite low. This is still a very touchy system and we will continue to monitor it as we get closer. The cold will settle for a few days with hard freezes expected by Sunday and Monday morning. Afterwards, we will begin to rebound with highs back into the 50s Tuesday and Wednesday.Keep an eye on weather across Iowa with vlog's skycamsWeather watchers can keep an eye on conditions by checking our skycam page, which shows aerial views from more than 20 sites across the state.Iowa weather forecast:Today: Sunny skies.
