Iowa football: Quarterback Brendan Sullivan enters transfer portal

Iowa football: Quarterback Brendan Sullivan enters transfer portal
EIGHT SPORTS POWERED BY CARL’S AUTO GROUP. STORYLINES ABOUND IN IOWA CITY. GUT CHECK SATURDAY FOR THE HAWKEYES. IS IT FINALLY TIME TO CHANGE QUARTERBACKS? A LOSS TO NORTHWESTERN AT HOME WOULD CREATE SOME REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE CONVERSATIONS. IOWA’S OFFENSE HAD SOME MOMENTS EARLY. HOMECOMING WEEKEND JUICED UP CROWD. CADE MCNAMARA FEEDING OFF THAT. THIS IS A NICE BALL HERE TO SETH ANDERSON. SLIGHTLY OVERTHROWN. ANDERSON GOES FULL EXTENSION FOR THE GRAB. THEY WOULD END UP SETTLING FOR A FIELD GOAL. SO IT’S THREE NOTHING. THE VIBES WENT FROM GOOD TO HORRIBLE. IOWA IN THE RED ZONE. AND THIS WOULD BE THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL’S BACK. THAT’S A PICK SIX. TARON JOHNSON. 85 YARDS NORTHWESTERN TAKES THE LEAD. BOOS COME DOWN AND KIRK FERENTZ FINALLY MAKES THE CHANGE THAT FANS HAVE BEEN WANTING. BRENDAN SULLIVAN WITH THE HAWKEYES DOWN SEVEN FIVE. FANS FINALLY GOT TO SEE SULLIVAN USE HIS LEGS, AND HERE YOU KIND OF SEE JUST HOW FAST HE IS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY FIELD LEVEL HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR SHANNON EARHART AND THAT RUNNING GAME FINALLY ALLOWS CALEB JOHNSON TO BREAK THROUGH RIGHT BEFORE HALFTIME. 26 YARDS BREAKING TACKLES LEFT AND RIGHT TO THE HOUSE. IOWA TAKES A 12 SEVEN LEAD INTO THE BREAK. THIRD QUARTER. MORE BRENDAN SULLIVAN THIS TIME. READ OPTION ON THE KEEPER. PUTS ON THE BOOSTERS, GETS THE CORNER. IOWA TAKES A 19 SEVEN LEAD. FANS HAVE BEEN WAITING TO SEE KADEN WETJEN TAKE A PUNT BACK THIS YEAR. HE HAS BEEN CLOSE AND TODAY HE FINALLY BREAKS THROUGH AND IN TURN BREAKS THIS GAME. OPEN 85 YARDS FOR THE WILLIAMSBURG NATIVE. 26 TO 7. AFTER THAT, QUARTERBACK CADE MCNAMARA ON THE SIDELINE. HE’S GOING TO GO OVER. HE’S GOING TO DAP UP THE SOPHOMORE. YEAH THERE YOU GO. AND IOWA WOULD KEEP THEIR FOOT ON THE GAS. JOHNSON 41 YARDS. IOWA SCORES 28 POINTS IN THE THIRD QUARTER. THEY RUN NORTHWESTERN OUT OF THE BUILDING 40 TO 14. YOUR FINAL. SHANNON EARHART CONTINUES OUR COVERAGE IN IOWA CITY. SHE’S LIVE. HI, SHANNON. JEFF, I WONDER WHAT WAS SAID IN THE LOCKER ROOM AT HALFTIME. OBVIOUSLY, I’M NOT IN POST RIGHT NOW. LISTENING TO THE PLAYERS IN KIRK FERENTZ TALK, BUT I’M INTERESTED TO KNOW WHAT THAT SPARK WAS. I DO HAVE AN IDEA. I DON’T WANT TO SPECULATE, BUT I WOULD SAY THAT IT WAS TRANSFER NORTHWESTERN QUARTERBACK BRENDAN SULLIVAN. HE PROVIDED THAT SPARK THAT IOWA NEEDED, AND HE IS SO MOBILE THAT THE GAME COMPLETELY CHANGED. IT WAS NIGHT AND DAY BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM. HE ACTUALLY TOLD MEDIA. I HAD MY PHOTOGRAPHER TELL ME THAT HE TOLD HIM THAT THE REASON WHY HE WAS READY FOR THIS MOMENT IS BECAUSE HE’S PLAYED THOSE SNAPS BEFORE. CALEB JOHNSON ALSO TOLD US THAT BRENDAN SULLIVAN WAS A LOT MORE MOBILE AND THAT’S WHY HIS RUN GAME WAS ABLE TO BREAK OPEN THREE TOUCHDOWNS FOR CALEB JOHNSON. AS YOU SAID, JEFF 109 YARDS. NOW GET THIS WITH CADE MCNAMARA IN THE GAME CALEB JOHNSON HAD FIVE CARRIES FOR TWO YARDS WITH BRENDAN SULLIVAN. JOHNSON HAD HAD NINE RUSHES FOR 107 YARDS IN THOSE THREE TOUCHDOWNS. THE PACE WAS SO MUCH BETTER WITH SULLIVAN IN THE GAME. THE LAST FOUR DRIVES RESULTED IN TOUCHDOWNS. HE WAS SUPER ACCURATE, TOO, OR AS ACCURATE AS HE COULD BE FOR GETTING THAT MUCH PLAYING TIME WITH A NEW TEAM AND A BIG ENVIRONMENT. 64% SULLIVAN DID TOTAL 41 RUSHING YARDS IN EIGHT CARRIES AND SCORED SIX POINTS HIMSELF. ON TOP OF THAT, YOU SAW HIM CHIRPING ON THE SIDELINE A LITTLE BIT AGAINST HIS FORMER TEAM. I THINK THIS WAS A RETRIBUTION GAME FOR HIM AS HE GOT REVENGE ON HIS FORMER TEAM. THE DEFENSE REBOUNDED AND IT DID WELL AND MAYBE THEY FED OFF THE HATE FROM THIS WEEK. TWO INTERCEPTIONS, ONE FUMBLE RECOVERY. COACH KIRK FERENTZ AND BIG TEN NETWORK’S POSTGAME INTERVIEW CREDITED THE SUCCESS OF THE TEAM TO A GOOD WEEK OF PRACTICE, AND HE SAID THAT HE WAS SUPER PROUD OF HIS TEAM. HE WAS HAPPY WITH THE WAY THEY PLAYED, BUT THIS CONFERENCE IS TOUGH AND THIS GAME WAS GOOD FOR IOWA. IT WAS A GOOD BOUNCE BACK, REBOUND GAME, BUT NORTHWESTERN IS NOT A VERY GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM, SO WE’LL SEE IF IOWA CAN SUSTAIN THE SUCCESS AND WHETHER THEY’RE PLAYING BRENDAN SULLIVAN OR CADE MCNAMARA AGAINST WISCONSIN NEXT
