Can birds ride on a commercial flight? Photo shows several birds on plane

Birds believed to be falcons, says reports

An image of a plane full of around 80 birds is being shared around the internet, prompting many questions. According to Business Insider, the Reddit image was posted this week. It appeared to show several birds, identified in the comment thread as possibly hawks or falcons, on an airplane. The birds each had their own seat reportedly purchased by a Saudi prince, who is said to have been transporting the birds. Business Insider reports that the falcon is the national bird of the United Arab Emirates, therefore making it plausible that the airline would accommodate the birds if they were indeed falcons. The Atlas Obscura claims that falcons can obtain passports for flights in the United Arab Emirates. The birds are issued their own version of passport called the “forest green passport.” The reasoning behind the special form of identification made is, in part, because the birds are said to be appealing to smugglers and are “highly prized,” says Atlas Obscura. Business Insider says that Qatar Airways allows a maximum of six falcons on its flights in economy class. The birds are placed on cloth and given their own seats.
