Des Moines shuts down spraygrounds as central Iowa cities work to conserve water
SEE SOME RAIN AND STORMS THAT’S COMING UP. THANK YOU. AND ALSO BREAKING IT FOR THE CITY OF DES MOINES ANNOUNCED THIS AFTERNOON IT’S SHUTTING DOWN ALL OF ITS SPRAYGROUND SPLASH POOLS AND WADING POOLS, EFFECTIVE TODAY. THIS IS ABOUT 24 HOURS AFTER CENTRAL IOWA WATER WORKS ANNOUNCED A BAN ON LAWN AND LAWN WATERING IN ITS MEMBER COMMUNITIES. IT’S THE LATEST IN THE EFFORT TO REDUCE WATER USAGE, ALL TRIGGERED BY THE LEVEL OF NITRATES IN THE WATER SUPPLY. BUT THERE ARE SOME EXCEPTIONS WHERE LIMITED WATER USE IS ACCEPTABLE. vlog MARCUS MCINTOSH JOINS US NOW WITH MORE ON THAT. MARCUS. BENNETT. THIS IS A POOR SOURCE WATER QUALITY PROBLEM. MORE WATER CONSERVATION METHODS INCLUDE TAKING SHORTER SHOWERS, USING FULL LOADS IN YOUR WASHING MACHINE AND DISHWASHER, AND HOLDING OFF ON WASHING YOUR CAR. BEN. YEAH, WE CAN ALL DO OUR PART IN THIS. MARCUS THANK YOU. AND THESE ARE THE COMMUNITIES THAT MUST REDUCE WATER USAGE. THE WATER TREATMENT PLANTS ARE MAXED OUT. NITRATE LEVELS ARE CLOSE TO THE EPA’S UNSAFE LIMIT. DES MOINES WATER WORKS SAYS THERE IS. THIS IS, I SHOULD SAY, ONE OF THE FEW TIM
