Severe weather: Recapping Monday night storms across northern Iowa

Severe weather: Recapping Monday night storms across northern Iowa
DECIDED LATER THIS YEAR. SOME STRONG STORMS ARE ABOUT TO MOVE INTO PARTS OF CENTRAL IOWA. LET’S HEAD BACK NOW TO JASON. HE’S GOT THE TIMING OF EVERYTHING. JASON, WHAT’S THE LATEST? YEAH, WE’VE GOT A SIGNIFICANT STORM THAT’S PUSHING ITS WAY THROUGH NORTHWESTERN IOWA RIGHT NOW. SPENCER RIGHT ON THE EDGE OF THAT, AS WELL AS STORM LAKE WINDS ON THIS AROUND 80MPH, THOUGH, AS THESE STORMS WERE BACK THROUGH NORTHWESTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE ARE FAR NORTHWESTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE ACTUALLY HAD WIND GUSTS AROUND 90MPH ON THEM. SO THE WARNING THAT WE’VE GOT RIGHT NOW GOES UNTIL 1115. I WOULD PLAN ON THIS, THOUGH, AS THE STORM CONTINUES EASTWARD, SEEING A NEW WARNING ISSUED. YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THESE REPORTS OUT NEAR SIOUX CENTER. AGAIN, THOSE ARE SOME OF THE LOCATIONS WHERE WE HAD WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 60 AND 90MPH. SO THIS LINE IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO SURGE TO THE EAST. AND JUST A SMALL LOOK AT SOME OF THE CORE OF THE WINDS THAT WE’RE SEEING WITH THIS, THIS AREA THAT’S HIGHLIGHTED IN PINK AND ORANGE JUST SOUTH OF SIBLEY. VERY STRONG TO DESTRUCTIVE WIND POTENTIAL OUT OF THIS. AGAIN, THIS IS JUST A RADAR INDICATION OF WHAT THE WINDS ARE THAT WE’RE SEEING. BUT NO REASON TO BELIEVE AND NO REASON TO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE WINDS WITHIN THAT CORE COULDN’T BE WITHOUT OF 80, EVEN 90MPH IN SPOTS. SO THAT AREA OF WINDS, THE STRONGEST ALONG THIS LINE. BUT ALL ALONG THIS LINE, AGAIN, WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60MPH CAPABLE. AND WE’VE ALREADY SEEN THAT. AS I HAD SAID BEFORE. SO I WANT TO GET A NEW TRACK ON THIS AS IT STARTS TO PUSH ITS WAY ON IN. THIS IS MOVING AT AROUND 50 TO 60MPH, SO AREAS LIKE A REALLY A ONE MINUTE EVERLY COMING IN AT FOUR MINUTES, LINN GROVE TEN MINUTES, WEST OKOBOJI COMING IN AT 11 MINUTES. AND RIGHT NOW THIS IS REALLY THE ONLY STORM THAT WE’RE SEEING WORK ITS WAY THROUGH. IMPORTANT TO NOTE THOUGH. KEEP AN EYE ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THIS LINE AS THIS CONTINUES TO SURGE EASTWARD, WE’LL LIKELY SEE THAT GROW AND HOW FAR SOUTH THAT GROWS. AT LEAST STILL IN SOME QUESTION. BUT WE HAVE A NEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH THAT’S IN PLACE THAT DOES INCLUDE POLK COUNTY IN THE METRO AND THE ENTIRE NORTHERN HALF OR SO OF THE STATE, EXCEPT FOR MAYBE A FEW COUNTIES OUT WEST TOWARDS OMAHA OR SO. SO AS THAT LINE EXPANDS THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT AGAIN, WE WILL LIKELY AS IT MOVES BEYOND I-35 SEE IT WEAKEN A BIT, BUT UP UNTIL THEN, THIS IS AIR THAT IS JUST RIPE FOR STORM DEVELOPMENT AND WILL LIKELY CONTINUE TO SEE SEVERE CHARACTERISTICS AS IT PUSHES ITS WAY ON THROUGH. SO HERE’S A LOOK AT THE LINE IN THE NEXT COUPLE HOURS THAT SURGES EASTWARD TOWARDS ALGONA FORT DODGE DOWNWARDS TOWARDS AROUND JEFFERSON OR SO, CROSSING OVER 35 AT AROUND MIDNIGHT. AND THAT’S GOING TO CONTINUE TO PUSH EASTWARD. SO WATERLOO, MARSHALLTOWN, ALL THE WAY DOWN TOWARDS AROUND GRINNELL OR SO WE’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’S GOING TO CONTINUE ON INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. SO AS FAR AS HOW MUCH RAIN YOU CAN EXPECT, 1 TO 2IN FAIRLY WIDESPREAD WILL NOT BE UNCOMMON. COULD SEE SOME TOTALS UP TO THREE, MAYBE EVEN FOUR INCHES. SO DAMAGING WINDS FOLLOWED BY HEAVY RAIN. AND THEN HOW ABOUT A COOL DOWN THOSE TEMPERATURES PUSHING BACK DOWN INTO THE 70S? BY WEDNESDAY WE’RE IN THE MIDDLE 70S THROUGH THE END OF NEXT WEEKEND WITH THAT HUMIDITY DROP
