Iowa weather: Polk County's Extreme Temperature Plan in effect

Iowa weather: Polk County's Extreme Temperature Plan in effect
IT’S A SAD STORY TO SAY WE’RE EVEN GETTING HOTTER THIS WEEK. YEAH, WE STILL GOT A COUPLE MORE DAYS TO GO OF THIS TIME. AND ACTUALLY, PROBABLY TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE WORSE. LET’S JUMP INTO IT HERE. SO TODAY WE STILL HAVE A HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR ANOTHER ABOUT 2.5 HOURS. 8:00 TOMORROW. MOST OF THE STATE, OR AT LEAST HERE IN CENTRAL IOWA, ACTUALLY ENDS UP UNDER AN EXTREME HEAT WARNING. WE’RE GOING TO DIAL THINGS UP ANOTHER NOTCH. NORTHEAST IOWA, ANOTHER HEAT ADVISORY. SO THE BASICALLY THE DIFFERENCE IS ABOUT FIVE DEGREES IN YOUR HEAT INDEX VALUES EXPECTED TOMORROW, ABOUT 110. IN THE ADVISORY AREA, 115 FOR A PEAK HEAT INDEX IN THE WARNING AREA. BY COMPARISON, RIGHT NOW. HEY, NOT BAD COMPARED TO TOMORROW. WE DO HAVE TOD MENTIONED THOUGH LOW ONE HUNDREDS IN A LOT OF SPOTS. SOME OF OUR SMALLER AIRPORTS THAT ARE A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO NEARBY FARM FIELDS GETTING A LITTLE EXTRA PUSH SOME MOISTURE. SO THAT’S WHY SOME OF THOSE PLACES LIKE ATLANTIC, CRESTON, CHARITON ARE FEELING LIKE THE 100 TEENS. THOSE DEW POINTS SURGING JUST A LITTLE BIT OUT IN THE COUNTRY. OTHERWISE, THERE’S ONLY ONE LITTLE LONE SHOWER DOWN WAY SOUTHEASTERN IOWA, BASICALLY NORTHWEST OF KEOSAUQUA. THERE’S GOING TO BE SEVERE STORMS TO OUR NORTH THIS EVENING UP IN MINNESOTA. SOME OF THOSE COULD MAKE THEIR WAY INTO NORTHERN AND EASTERN IOWA TONIGHT. OTHERWISE, MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. YOUR HEAT INDEX VALUES ONLY FALL TO THE 80S, AND THEN IT’S OFF TO THE RACES TOMORROW. WE HAVEN’T TALKED ABOUT THE OTHER POSSIBILITIES FOR STORMS THIS WEEK YET, THOUGH. WE’LL COVER THOSE IN THE FULL FORECAST. THANK YOU. ZANE. POLK COUNTY IS ACTIVATING ITS EXTREME TEMPERATURE PLAN TOMORROW DUE TO THE HEAT. IT GOES INTO EFFECT AT 8 A.M. COOLING CENTERS WILL NOW BE OPEN
