From the archives: 6,000 Iowans gather to make massive American flag
Good morning. How you doing? The line outside Sec Taylor Stadium goes on for blocks. I got something to warm my hands and blocks. How you doing? And blocks rather chilly out. Been *** long line. Long time to get up here. But it's well worth the wait. That's it. You got those flags, wave them. I love it. It's love of country. *** feeling of patriotism. *** hope for unity and it's brought so many here being united with your friends, neighbors and of Iowa. Mayor Preston Daniels, greets the thousands who show up to wear the red, white and blue. We need to re energize ourselves and this is *** nice way to do it. Once inside the stadium, we're passing out red shirts for the red part of the flag. Grab one from one of the people. It's the white shirts. Now we're taking turns red. Then why, then why people get their shirts and their marching orders? You got him in blocks of 400 as they line up the flag, the symbol of our country begins to take shape. We want it to be part of history and we think that's probably what this is for organizers. The turnout is all they hoped for and much more. It is the coolest thing in the world I've ever been part of. It is so incredibly cool. All right, everybody, I want you to raise your hands high. And when everyone is in their place, the human flag shows the red, white and blue, the stars and the stripes, we had no idea. We said we need 6000 people and we have 6000 people. It's *** way to do something and you want to do something. People are angry and people are frustrated and this is just *** way to show unity and, and to be *** part of something historic, brings everybody together. I think we need that right now. I think we still need to stand strong. You know, we need to be together Michelle Parker KCC News channel eight this morning.
